I don't get why this command is labeled as a cheat in ezquake. I mean, this command does not make it easier to shaft. What originally made the lightning particles in ezquake "cheaty" was that you could see if the shaft was hitting anything or not (and hence determine it's length). This is however a whole different command (gl_lightning_sparks)! So why ban something that just makes things more attractive? gl_lightning 1 gl_particle_trail_detail 10 gl_particle_trail_width 3 that makes the lightning look like this: cheaty? or just better looking?

Is it possible to make the shaft beam itself less wide? If so, it's definitely a cheat. Teamplay is nothing. Aim is everything. OBEY YOUR AIM

well it's not like it's a straight line, and as far as I know, you can't make it any smaller than on the screenshot
try it out yourself and you'll see

How can a straight line be cheat, it doesn't make you shaft better.

true that, and I still vote cl_truelightning 1 allowed!

why can't i get this lightning beam to work.
I tried the settings above on my config and without a config just default ezquake 1517 settings, it just simply doesn't work any more settings?

How can a straight line be cheat, it doesn't make you shaft better. Of course it could. The less screen space the shaft model occupies, the easier it is to see the enemy. And it's also easier to aim if the model is straight, if you (like me) aim shaft without crosshair. Teamplay is nothing. Aim is everything. OBEY YOUR AIM

So why ban something that just makes things more attractive? Put -particles 0 in the cmdline, and voila, the shaft disappears completely (and you could just make a crosshair which bottom line extends down the screen, thus giving you a straight shaft). I think that's why it was banned, though could have been made that it doesn't effect the shaft, but it would kinda defeat the purpose of -particles.

ui - Of course it could. The less screen space the shaft model occupies, the easier it is to see the enemy. And it's also easier to aim if the model is straight, if you (like me) aim shaft without crosshair. Less screen space? if you already play in 1600x1200 - with conheight 1024 conwidth 768.. wouldn't make that diffrence. And i've tried it, didn't see any diffrence in povdmm4 on the lightning percent. Prove me wrong.

then make gl_lightning not work with -particles <X where X is the amount of particles needed to display the shaft beam
