There's now a quakeworld bot sitting 24/7 streaming various servers. preferbly it will be qw.foppa.dk:27501 with autotrack on by default.
It's currently on some server right now.

The link is http://twitch.tv/qwtv

Hint: passowrd it's the best and most famous qw player ever known. [DO NOT POST]
I think everyone probably know who 'qwtv' is, hint->"AH AH AH AH AH".
But other don't so plese don't talk about it (keeping away from googlebots etc)

I'm currently looking for people who can manage it.
You get vnc access and ssh access. and everyone know's qw.

There are some technical drawback with it.

1) i've chosen 320x200 which makes sense. it's 16:10 and anyone with a real crt monitor can probably just stretch their monitor to make it fit and everyone else is happy.
2) it use fodquake, why? fodquake does NOT use 100% cpu, ezquake does.
3) it's not x264 encoded. why? x264 encoding eats the entire cpu on the machine.
4) The machine running quake does not have a GPU (or it does, but makes no sense, fodquake eats 100% cpu with it because GPU is so bad)

If you can't figure out the password, enter your server browser, and look for a obvious fakenicker who spectates a server

This is still in betaphase so please be patient.

Great idea! But: I don't really see any use of this if it is meant to stay private? Also I have no clue what the password is.

You can limit x264 to use only one CPU core/thread (if you have a proper CPU anyways) from what I know. It might still be too demanding for realtime streaming. I guess you use XviD now?

That resolution seems hardcore low. Also be aware that unfiltered software video compresses much worse than filtered OpenGL (about 3 times more bitrate from my experience). I prefer the pixel look myself and use it for my videos (in 1280x720 though) but for live streaming QW it does not make sense.

I would be very interested in some way to capture filtered video (OpenGL?) on a headless linux box with crap vga. In my case it does not really matter how long it takes as long it is more than 5fps or so.

Ok we finally decided to switch to x264, quality looks a bit better and we are about 40-52kb/sec (384~-~512kbit/s). We was at about 5mbit/s before. This is a huge difference in both quality and feeling.

As sound quality is important in qw, i decided to not touch it. it's 128kbit 44khz now and will stay that way.

For the opengl question, in the future it's possible. however, i will never use ezquake for streaming 24/7 unless some big important game is on it's way and it's neccesary to show such graphic at all.

I can run more cams at the same time, but it makes no sense since all the sound will be mixed into DAC anway :|
Perhaps someone have time to fix the qwcl.x11/ezquake.x11/fodquake.x11 to make it run in a 8bit xorg server. Might take even less then with a suitable codec which supports 8bit (256 colours). [edit: fodquake-sw seems to run perfectly fine under 8bit configuration on some conditions]

Ofcourse, for big events, someone else is more than welcome to do the show.

* fixed sound quality
* fixed video quality.
* autotrack is ONLY turned on when griffin is not playing.
OpenGL on it's way. "The Big Games" will probably be in OpenGL. - please post good configurations for OpenGL and nice textures. Note that this machine is so utter crap, it will probably not work with higher resolution than 640x480 anyway :/

I guess you'll have to rely on bigfoot for your software renderer. Afaik no one is doing dev for ezquake anymore and I've scrapped it completely in my project already, it's 2013.

this would be so amazing if the quality wasn't so bad but good initiative, nonetheless

Whats the purpose of the password?
Dont you want random people watching qw?

I think he don't want people to find out how ugly the stream is, we could loose potential players !
