No plans on adding maps? Or is this an insane idea. I have seen that other maps been played in other EQL's. Why not have them in mappool, where they broken and unbalanced or something?
I know some people don't like the idea of new maps or change stuff, but I think it could help less skilled players to learn when the other players don't have the same knowledge of the map as they have in DM2-3 and E1m2.

Lets just say I'll leave the new maps for something else. I want to keep EQL old school for now. There has been so many debates over this issue, just check the forum here and previous EQL and NQR seasons if you want to read about it.

The classic "WTF are there [no] custom maps in the map pool?!" (depending on the situation) has been an inherent part of every QW league for at least 15 years.

In my point of view the discussion on "trying new maps in EQL" is pretty redundant, because if the scene wanted to play new maps, they would play on them outside of EQL in mixes and such. So if you think about the mentality that people bring into mix games, why would it be any different in EQL? Because somebody told you so? I donīt see that reasoning being applied to a scene with an avg. age well over 20.
The interest in actually playing new maps is really low outside of EQL, it doesnīt really make sense for Hooraytio to make a decision to incorporate them into EQL. It would probably not even be a stretch to say that atleast 95% of all mix games are played on dm3. The only interest that Iīve seen in new maps (4on4) are the map makers (like Muff1n) actually trying to make something substantial, the recent QWenya tournaments that donīt apply to 4on4 (yet), and the usual preseason whine/critisism that thereīs never any new maps. The scene is actually run by the scene. If the scene wanted new maps, there would be new maps. Even the maps that got accepted into EQL during some point has disappeared.
So realistically, in the QW scene today, this is what I see has to be done to incorporate new 4on4 maps into the only major league we have: * Make a well balanced map(s) for 4on4 that does something dm3, dm2 and e1m2 donīt already do. * Make a tournament with good planning and some incentive for people to participate. * "Successful" tournament? Then point to this fact and there can be an actual debate on whether or not to incorporate it. * "Unsuccessful" tournament? Start from the beginning and go through what went/was wrong. carrier has arrived - twitch.tv/carapace_

It was just an idea, but you make a good point cara. Maybe I should try make mixes that plays other maps and see how it goes. Or if Qwenya maybe have an 4on4 tourney someday. But my guess is not many players want to play it either way. Some are fine with the maps that are played and then there are some like me that want to see new ones

Some are fine with the maps that are played and then there are some like me that want to see new ones I would think CMT4 and CMT3 for example are much more suited for mixes than DM2 and E1M2. I'm sure there's a bunch of other maps as well, like some episode maps, other CMT maps or some of muffins efforts, that would also would play out really good in mixes. Still, with the current state of things, EQL should stick to TB3 as cara pointed out (even though the mere sight of DM2 almost makes me wanna puke now days). Spam for some kenya mix, and I'd happily join if I'm around. i think there still is some around that would like to play something else than TB3 as well. Just because the interest for playing other maps doesn't seem to be high enough to justify running a tournament with them, doesn't mean we can't play them at all. Some maps that come to mind that I would love to play 4on4 on: e1m3 e3m7 cmt1b cmt2 cmt3 cmt4 some of those muffin maps turned out quite good eventually

Imo, the interest of playing kenya maps is directly dependent of the fact if those maps are played on a league or not. I mean, if <whatever qw tournament> map pool contains kenya maps, players will want to practice them, and therefore play them. Why would I bother to practice a map that won't be played "where it matters"? For fun? No time for that =) Still, with the current state of things, EQL should stick to TB3 as cara pointed out I have mixed feelings on that sentence. The scene decisions regarding some rules and particularly maps over the last decade or so led to situation we're at. Much of guys who had the power to take such decisions in the past are now gone or taking a long break, i think mainly because there's not enough "good" players anymore, and the scene lacks competition. Imo, most of those players quit because playing the same 3 maps over and over eventually bored them. So, for some time now, qw is at a crossroad: will it change direction, or will it continue to insist in the same formats? It's up to us to decide. AND to make it happen. never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.

Why would I bother to practice a map that won't be played "where it matters"? For fun? No time for that =) To start with, your proposal forces people to play new maps. Sure, Hooraytio might have that "power", but what purpose does it serve? That was the whole point of my post: First there needs to be a general consensus in the scene that we want more maps. We do not have that. Not even remotely close. Having new maps for the sake of having new maps will never stick in a community so small and old as this one. That being said, Iīm all for new maps (as proven by my participation in QWenya and also beta-testing Muffins maps). I like thinking about fresh strategic options and conquering new ground, but that doesnīt in any way merit me going on about: "New maps in EQL please" and making up reasons for it out of thin air and hope people will believe me (It will revitalize the scene / It would be so much fun [for everyone] etc). Itīs pretty straight forward: There is no higher power out there denying everyone their grand wishes of kenya maps. If there was a demand, there would be a supply, and if you can point to a demand that isnīt already met, then I feel its worth having a discussion. I hope you donīt find me too cynical, but I really donīt think writing "new maps in eql please" by a handful of people each season is going to amount to anything; not even a discussion at this point. carrier has arrived - twitch.tv/carapace_

Even when for example cmt3 and cmt4 were a part of the map pool the mixes focused on dm3 and the pracs focused on tb3. Anyway, cara and rikoll have said everything else that needs to be said in this thread.

EQL 17 update: EQL 17 latest news"Since there are no news about the page for EQL 17... ... I will use the EQL 16 page. I will require all clans to signup here using this format for the clan name: "Name -17". For example my own team will be Chosen -17. This way I can keep the EQL 16 and 17 clans apart and the stats for each clan and each season will be kept apart. This means that you will need to sign up a new team even if your team was signed for and played in EQL 16. As you can see I have added a warmup division for EQL 17 where all signed clans can play versus each other and report the results just like a normal EQL game. This is supposed to be for fun and also to get some action going. Your clan is not required to play any warmup games but I guess it wont hurt to get some pracs in before the real group games begin. For starters I will add fixtures for all signed teams and you can contact me if you wish to play more than once versus certain clans. Signups are open from now until September 15th so go ahead and sign up and get some warmup games going."
