Would it really? I remember when Warsow first appeared, I played it through many of its beta versions and I was genuinely interested in seeing the game evolve. Then Quake Live happened and the whole "cool multiplayer FPS free to play" idea was no longer exclusive to Warsow. QL took away lots of players from WsW (me included). Nevertheless, I still check the Warsow website from time to time to see what's new.
What I'm trying to say is, I consider myself vaguely interested in Warsow.... and I would have never known it was on GOG.com had it not been for your post...
I can imagine the same for Quakeworld - only people already interested in the game would acknowledge its existence on sites such as GOG or Steam.
The only thing I can imagine would bring Quakeworld back into spotlight (even if only for a brief moment) is a major tournament. Think of "Doom 2 Anniversary Tournament" on this year's Quakecon. Quake is getting its 20th anniversary in 2016, so who knows...
