"Would like to be able to type whole sentences"
Just think about what you're asking for, or I'll make it plain simple: How would the "translator" know if you want white or red text? White, red or gold numbers?
The answer is never going to be much different from what you present in your first post.

I have an old utility called "QuakeStrings" that showcases the raw output of the name, and can save a simple .cfg with a simple name command that uses what you put into it. The interface is a simple "click a character to add it to the name" interface.
You can also call in a string from a .cfg provided it has just this line:
name "*STRINGHERE*"
where *STRINGHERE* is the text you wish to decode. Only useful for grabbing from raw unparsed logs if you need to make a snappy picture of it.

I meant alt and ctrl, but shift may be needed for some characters. Basically who the fuck needs an app to make a name when special characters are easy to do in the console. Aliasing has never been so ez
If there's any conchars you can't produce by using ctrl etc. there's another way to do it in console. Just look at your conchars.png. It's a 16 char by 16 character grid. Find which column and row its on, and then use $xyz in console, where y is the row and z the column number, in hexadecimal. For instance $x00 will be the top left character on the conchars grid, $x0F the top right, $xF0 bottom left and $xFF bottom right
I'm really stoned so apologies in advance if I didn't explain that well
