QW used to be more about playing the game and keeping the scene alive instead of bringing back memories of happier days.
I know the netquake scene organized special days like Quake expos where all out of a sudden people celebrated a dead game, presented new mods, maps or created new stuff "live".

As far as your question regarding the ways and date the QW community celebrates the annual "Quake day", I'm tempted to say: not at all.
