With the addition of a number of new strategically placed servers around the globe aimed to narrow the ping gap between regions and continents, we are now in the unique position to run a competitive multi-continent QuakeWorld duel tournament and we are even putting our money where our mouth is. For the first time DuelMania will not be run as a European-based tournament, but instead as a tri-continent tournament aimed to cover players all the way from South America to Europe with North America in-between! The 3 key differences in this season of DuelMania are as follows:Games will need to be played on the server that gives both players the lowest ping, even if that server is located in another continent. The ping-up rule has been increased from 38ms to 90ms if one player's ping is above 90ms. We have prize money. At this stage we have a guaranteed wallet of USD$625 which will pay out the top 5 players. How will it work with server choice?Normal rules apply when playing someone from your own continent. You will need to play on higher pings if your opponent is from another continent. European and South American players will be expected to play their games on servers in the USA (Miami or New York servers are the mandatory options). If one player has less than 90ms ping and one player has above 90ms then pinging up to 90ms (maximum) is required. North American players will need to play in Europe or South America if they are East Coast (and it is the fairest option), otherwise if they are west coast they will need to play in Miami or New York and then ping up. You must use sb_findroutes 1 to ensure you have the best possible route. People not using the best route will be considered to be artificially increasing their ping to sway server choice in their favour. Players who don't wish to use sb_findroutes 1 to have their best route chosen for them should research the best combination of proxies in advance for them to play on New York, Miami and London servers. Refer to this guide: http://www.quakeworld.nu/blog/377/how-to-use-qwfwd-to-improve Some examples?dirtbox (Netherlands) vs dev (North Brasil) - New York server (equal 90ms) BloodDog (East USA) vs locust (Sweden) - London server (locust pings up) BogoJoker (West USA) vs x1bot (South Brasil) - Miami Server (Bogo pings up) Bulat (Russia) vs x1bot (South Brasil) - New York (both with high pings) QuakeWorld is turning 20 next year, 1996-2016. Hopefully this tournament will inspire QuakeWorld fans to look again to this incredible game, and celebrate the incredible 20 year anniversary of the one and only, Quake! SIGN UP NOW and celebrate!

What if we could invite the Net-QUAKE community to play it with us? I like this idea! Would they be interested? Join us on discord.quake.world

I can try to invite some of the TDM NetQuake gamers. I am happy to participate, even with my 70-90 ping that I am suffering as of the last 2 weeks. My routing went down the drain o_O Someone should drop this event into a lower gear and mash the pedal, hit the NOS! Once I have something to advertise, I can make a news post over at Quakeone.com pertaining to it, + I can direct the 10+ regular NQ players to the post that fully details the instructions + the arrangements in place for the event. Build a road map and I'll deliver as much as I can from the NQ side of things. We have some serious heavy hitters in NetQuake, I'm merely a kitten We have a GroupMe chatroom setup and its 30+ strong, but as I said, roughly only 10 are fully active at any given moment, we typically play 4v4 TDM in Clan Ring mod.

I don't mean to be blunt, but this is a QW tourney and it won't be NQ. If you wanna run a combined QW/NQ tourney then please be my guest but dev and I have been planning a tri-contintent tourney with cash prizes for some time. We are actually funding it from our own pockets. I aint putting any cash towards a tourney running a vastly inferior version of Quake. We play Quakeworld. But feel free to enter this QW tourney. We encourage it.

It would be extremely audacious to sign up for a QW event and expect it be NQ I understand its QW. Move mouse , click button , gib , dominate. Quake! 10-30 competitive players is our playerbase. 10 representing the everday amount of players who regularly play teamdeathmatch at the drop of a hat, with 30 representing the total number of Quakers we have in our GroupMe chat. btw, nice poke at NQ being inferior , all the more reason to round up the NQ troops.

So I was surfing the duelmania official website.... http://www.duelmania.net/ I wanted to check ping times to all the relevant continents, and noticed the servers page http://www.duelmania.net/?sid=4&mod=servers&act=view&opt= has zero servers listed.
lol
Can someone post a complete list of the QW servers that I will be subject to playing on? And any other relevant information whether typed up here or linked elsewhere?
What are the official clients being allowed , or are there clients not being allowed? What is recommended ?
http://www.duelmania.net/?sid=4&mod=signups&act=view&opt=
^ Is that the current signup list or is that just left overs from a previous tournaments?
I have many more questions but I think those can wait until the current ones get answered with some clarifications.
Also, even though Quakeone.com is primarily focused on NetQuake, would anyone want to get with me and work together to accumulate information in a neat and tidy news article on the front page? Who is the HMFIC of this duel mania event?

Dirtbox... I've been watching the QW community in the last 6 months + and everything was a complete failure. Now I understand why since you want to play alone... then let it be. I'm sorry for all other people who were interested in having also a NQ DuelMania Tourney and possibly a Net-QUAKE-World final but I won't stick where I'm inferior and not appreciated. Since I'm a marketing specialist I already know where this is going to end: just look recent past. I lol'd

I'm sorry for all other people who were interested in having also a NQ DuelMania Tourney and possibly a Net-QUAKE-World final but I won't stick where I'm inferior and not appreciated. Complete failure? explain exactly what is a complete failure? I can tell you what would be a complete failure. Trying to run a tri-continent tournament using NQ's Netcode. Quakeworld was invented because NQ's netcode is so bad that you cannot play on high pings. In Quakeworld we use UDP which is vastly SUPERIOR for gaming. NQ uses TCP for gods sake and there is a reason why no game ever since has used TCP, because it sucks on any latency at all. QW has been enhanced in modern times with antilag technologies for hitscan weapons allowing fairplay even further before on high pings. In this tournament we are trying to achieve, for the first time, a tournament spanning multiple continents. We've setup extra servers in strategic locations to be able to do this.... and you wanna come along and make people play with a network-technologically inferior version (this is a straight up fact, not a diss of NQ) of the game which essentially reverses our months of work to get to this point? I will give a +1 to wimp's response.

Since I'm a marketing specialist I already know where this is going to end: just look recent past. 1) What complete failure are you talking about? 2) "Now I understand why since you want to play alone" - who has ever said anything about wanting to play alone? We want to play QuakeWorld as it's the greatest game ever made. Noone said anything about playing it alone. 3) "I'm sorry for all other people who were interested in having also a NQ DuelMania Tourney and possibly a Net-QUAKE-World final but I won't stick where I'm inferior and not appreciated." - I'm not sure who these people you speak of are. Duelmania is a QuakeWorld tournament. We don't want to play NQ as we think it's an inferior game to QuakeWorld. QuakeWorld is refined and updated. If there was some dude from NQ who, for some reason, suddenly thought that Duelmania would turn netquake, then I'm sorry to that guy, but I have no idea why he would think such a thing. Oh well.

Clearly this guy has multiple screws loose. He has even removed every forum post he ever did here like a child. By the way has anyone actually seen his website? http://quakeone.net/ - He said he works in Marketing however his Quake "website" seems to look like something a 16yo ice addict put together using the worst of 1993's web graphics. He has included flow charts and a phone number (which doesn't work, i actually tried it) and it contains actually nothing about Quake itself. I don't know why this guy is here but I actually don't think it is for Quake.

It doesn't stop there, he signed up to the Duelmania site, collected all the admins email addresses and then contacted us trying to insert himself in to the Admin team. He sent dopeskillz a rambling email where he is delegating work and jobs to the different admins (and to people who we had never heard) of... for example I was delegated with the task of coming up with a $20k prize pool?

I won't stick where I'm inferior and not appreciated. I called NetQuake inferior... I like how he considers himself to be NetQuake. Like the game itself is posing on the forum.

He did not only message the admins but also the normal players. I always disliked it that people could get my email address so easily from the duelmania site. But as the QW community has been moron free until now I kind of ignored it. Maybe the email addresses should not longer be displayed.

" Hi Quake ONE Network would like to share info with you (once or twice a month)... let me know if you aren't interested.
His email"
And I know I am not the only one who got this mail.

Yes, we are still active. Demo recorded on 7/25/2015 obviously, on NetQuake http://www.filedropper.com/showdownload.php/quaketdm The force is strong with inferior Quake I followed the quakeone.com community a bit for a few years. The spirit felt completely different to the QW scene. I think the QW scene's focus was the competitiveness of the game which is still regarded to the best by many players and ex players. But it was a huge hit for many to accept that the player's base has been shrinking for a very long time, even down to the point that serious tournaments make no sense anymore. Much effort was put into reactivating players and addressing new players both with the goal to increase activity. As far as the Netquake scene is concerned, my impression was that players haven't considered the game to be competitive anymore and the only point to play the game because you enjoy it. Therefore, I really liked the way most NQ people wanted to find ways how to get more fun out of the game (new maps, clients, mods, enhancements etc.) and being generally open-minded towards changes. When things change(d) in the QW community, there are always a few questions heavily discussed: - Does this attract new players? - Does this discourage old players? As far as I remember you are one of the most active drivers in that scene and have a very positive attitude and are a great representive for Quake in general. Anyway, I think that Quake ONE Net guy didn't really understand that coming to these forums and talking as if he's the Pooh Bah of all things Quake wouldn't make him many friends. All help is appreciated but it seems he should have focussed differently. After all he wanted to hijack one of the last remaining institutions we have at QW, which is DuelMania, and leave his personal mark on it. I can fully understand that Dirtbox and others do not approve of this kind of behaviour. After all, a lot of preparation work and money (such as setting up an awesome strategic QW server landscape to allow cross-continental games!) was spent on it. DuelMania is a Quakeworld duel competition. I'm sure that everyone who accepts this fact is welcome to participate. Extending the tournament to another game is totally off the table (remember the 2 questions that always get asked when things shall change)
