The never-ending question.
Milton. The reason simply being that QuakeWorld has developed for like 10 years since Dag quit playing. Players have gotten better overall and Milton has still kept himself on top of everyone else. I think Dag in his prime would not stand a chance against Milton in any game mode.

Based on what I've seen, having watched, commentated on and played against both, Milton is better in my opinion for the following reasons: -Regarded as the best player for a longer period of time -Dominant when playing with a 'weaker' team (perhaps slightly unfair because I only really saw Dag at top clans like FF/LA/DS) -Proficient at custom maps -Generally very well rounded, very few weaknesses (Good at all maps, gamemodes, movement, aim, tp, decision making etc) -Served up more beastings against genuine top div1 clans by which I mean ~100 frag games -Nearly always top fragger in losing team -Slightly more stable mentality (less prone to raging etc)
Possibly Dag at peak level might beat Milton on tb3 1on1 as he was a good matchplayer, but it is difficult to say. My suspicion is that Dag probably wasn't quite as good as I remember when judged by modern standards and if I had to place a bet, my money would go on Milton.

I can only agree with everything HangTime said! I watched a couple of old LA playoffs games, and Dag didn't look too sharp in any of them. Possibly these were from the end of his career where he maybe wasn't that active. Does anyone have any recommendations of games to watch from when Dag was at his best?

Just watched a bit of LA vs TVS from 18/03/2002, dm3. Game goes OK (he literally makes 10x as many frags as Blaze) but you'd have to say his play is simply good, not godlike.
The most noticeable thing is the pace of the game, he is playing very cautiously (lots of CS at SNG, RA etc) and basically between minutes 6-10 he is just locking down YA and nothing else. Very smart in places (peekaboo, trying to lure enemies into LG ambush etc) but by comparison to Milton the movement is worse and there is much less aggressive dynamism.

As a big Dag fan, I can only say that Milton would kick his ass QW skills moved on too much since Dag's time.
