So I made a HUD config for me sometime last year. It's pretty simple and compact.

Here's a screenshot at 1024x768 with default ezquake charset and icons.
Should look fine with any other resolution and aspect ratio. The numbers above armor count show the weapons you have, excluding axe and sg (obviously). The number of the weapon you hold is marked by another color. It blinks when firing if you have weapon scripts.
