QuakeDroid Development Thread @ Func_Msgboard
For anyone interested, there is a project to develop an Android Quake that overloads on being mobile friendly.
Now, if you are interested in mobile certainly you've already used FTE's Android port, right?
Well, FTE does everything so what does QuakeDroid have to offer, you might ask? I consider Spike, the author of FTE, as one of my most valuable mentors in engine coding. My interests are in getting mobile exactly perfect, probably in an obsessive way that Spike isn't interested in --- but I hope he enjoys the show!!
QuakeDroid is easy to use, downloads shareware on first start. It has gamepad support. It is a regular Quake client, but in the long-term I plan on adding prediction from Quakeworld for co-operative play support --- another obsession of mine is co-operative play.
QuakeDroid has QMB effects available in the menu --- similar to some of the effects available in ezQuake.
Gamepad support via help from Quakespasm dev ericw (he's awesome)
Drag-look like Minecraft
Multi-Touch support
On-screen keyboard
Menu via touch -- even the sliders!
It's classic and authentic - yet so modern too!
Quake isn't getting any younger, but the passion for Quake can live on through open source, something I feel is important and is why is important even today.
If you are interested in being a beta-tester or providing some casual feedback, please feel welcome to post in the thread!
