Don't be fooled. These are either PRO or GE models. Most likely these will never enter retail and are 35 watt pieces (?). Nothing has been announced yet then it comes to consumer AM4 Renoir APUs. We have to see what names they come up with in the end..

Seems like a good overview how things are shifting at the moment. So it may be -50 at the end currently. But the same chip as the original 4700G name..

I just upgraded to the 3400G from the 3000G as I got one cheap 2nd hand and the benchmarks in a 4on4 timedemo are no faster than the 3000G. Fucking weird.

Well you have seen my benchmarks - did you not compare them to your 3000G? :-)

I upgraded to the 3400G because the timedemos you were getting were quite good...

I am getting about 50% of the performance you are getting..... 500fps @ 1080p on the FSvLA 4on4 e1m2 timedemo.

Your results with my config on the new renderer: 1047.1 fps [1920x1080]

I have a decent overclock also.

CPU - OC to 4.1GHz on all cores
RAM - 3600MHz@CL17 (downclocked to 3466MHz which is the max this B450 motherboard supports, timings lowered to C16)
GPU - OC to 1733MHz

Also - 4750G may come out as soon as next month

It could be a problem with your memory configuration. Memory speed is very important with APUs. For example, if you have two sticks of memory plugged then in theory you'll see double the performance of a single stick of memory. And quad channel is supposed to improve things further.

Its not that. These CPUs support dual channel only. In fact, thats all any desktop processor supports unless you go in to the the threadripper/xeon range of workstation CPUs. But yes, I have dual channel with the highest memory speed supported on these boards and chips and i've overclocked the timings. That aint it...

Surely Linux doesn't give 3x performance?

There are a couple of performance comparisons between single and dual channel, especially for that CPU. Like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4vTYLrAPgg

Perhaps Linux does the measurement of FPS differently than in Windows? I wonder if there is a reliable cross platform benchmark..

So.. still not announced.. other products not buy-able - only for OEMs

https://www.techpowerup.com/270233/possible-amd-ryzen-pro-4000g-series-sep-prices-surface-incompatible-with-400-series-chipset

Only for B550/X570 boards. Big disappointment.

Oh what, you are kidding? I have a B450 That really sucks. The 3400G is basically useless to me.

The picture indicates that.. maybe MB vendors may decide to still support it.. who knows.. still nothing is announced.. no one knows when they will be available.. no one knows if and when MB vendors will react.. it is just a waiting game atm.

i found some articles that say the B450 supports it.

In some other interesting news, with completely stock clocks on my 3400G, I can get 144fps solid in Diabotical @ 1080p just by lowering the renderscale to 66.6%.

CLICK for Video

I have to say, I am pretty impressed with these AMD APU's, they aren't great for QW, but do really well with modern engines/titles. I can even get 80fps in PUBG. With the 4700G it will be amazing. Also in that video above, check out the mini PC i built

I've been looking into Renoir as I'm interested in APUs. I've not used a discrete GPU in years!. But early signs are that the 4000G series isn't much faster than the 3000G. But it is much more efficient because of the 7nm process. AMD seems to be targeting laptops and so it partly explains why they're not in a rush to release the 4000G to the desktop market because there just isn't really going to by any performance improvement over the 3000G series.

I suppose if we step back and think about it it's not really surprising, as I've already mentioned earlier in this thread that APUs are limited by memory bandwidth and so both 3000G and 4000G are both restricted by the same dual channel DDR memory. It may not be until DDR5 arrives that we'll see a jump in APU performance.

BTW - I've just learned that APUs currently don't support quad channel memory.

Take a look here for more discussion on Renoir.

I have a grey market 4750G on the way... Hopefully my B450 mobo supports it. so far no official word for 4000 series APUs and 5000 series CPUs on B450

Let me know.. I guess the BIOSes don't have the IDs for these.. I have seen people running them on 500 chip sets though. Zen 3 BIOSes for 400ers are expected to be available at around January as AMD announced yesterday.

Just an update for those wanting to build a super cheap and super portable QW gaming PC - I've had some great success.

First off thanks to Tuna, eb, meag, raket and ciscon for some Linux help.

PC specs:
  • Athlon 3000G APU (CPU+iGPU)
  • MSI B450 Mini-ITX Motherboard
  • 16GB DDR4 3200 CL16
  • Crucial Sata SSD
  • InWin Chopin mini-ITX Case with 150watt PSU

In windows I could only get 385fps in a e1m2 timedemo but upgrading to the latest build of ezquake 3.6 got me up to 550fps - still not good enough so it was time for Linux....

Installed the latest Ubuntu Desktop (version 20) and then installed nQuake package, compiled latest ezquake from source and boom.... 1291fps at 1080p on an Athlon 3000G APU which costs just USD $50.

Anyone having FPS issues, that is, you get lower than 1155fps on e1m2 timedemo, then i suggest to try out ezquake 3.6 for massive fps gains... if its still not enough, try linux. Ubuntu has never been easier to use and you can just dual boot it.

So.. AMD released Zen3 based 5700G, 5600G and 5300G. Again OEM only, and again probably a gamble whether they run on older chipsets.. *sigh*

These ones are coming to DIY later in the year. They aren't going to be OEM only like Ryzen 4000 was. But its no big deal, they still use Vega for iGPU right? Not RDNA2?

Already with my 4750G the iGPU is a massive bottleneck and it will be even worse with 5700G.

Just get a BIOS upgrade your B450 and get a grey-market 4750G.
