Man this is cool... None of you probably know me but like most people, I played a huge amount of Quake back in the old days... (for a while I went by Flatliner under Bunk the Clown Clan, fav server was lpb.ini.umd.edu). Since then I moved on, partially because after the Q1 source was released I had a mac, and the new ports like proquake didn't run. But now I have an Intel iMac, and with Boot Camp I can run Windows, so it's back to old skool days for me :-)

Cut a long story short I've been churning through ezQuake command options guide. There is a crapload! lol. What I really want to know, to get myself back in the game is: who are the pros out there? I mean, whose demos should I be downloading, who's configs should I be looking at? I'll probably make my own config, but I want to get a feel for the sort of options that most pros out there are putting into their command lines.

I downloaded fQuake since that seemed like the best package to get me started. And I'll keep reading. But it would be cool if you guys had a sticky here with a faq on the top players and teams of the QW scene. Since what I'm looking for is more of a "newbie guide to getting started playing QW like the pros do". I AM familiar with QW already, so that's the kinda guide I'd be looking for :-)

--- Good Hunting.

Great to have you here! I am a newbie also, but here is def's quakeworld (not just his config, but the whole package!). Def is one of (if not) the most known North American QW player around.

http://www.qwplayers.org/oldman/def_quakeworld_2006_05_14_UNOFFICIAL.zip
You should read the readme file to get the most out of his package.

Also, KovaaK is another great NA QW legend who uses this package:
<quote>but you can grab mine at http://www.quakeworld.us/kovaak/public/games/quake/. (the 28 meg rar - it contains everything needed to play and a bat file to run it)</quote> -KovaaK

Probably the best dueler in my opinion at the moment is Reppie. He is a dutch man (flying dutch man). Check out his demos at challenge-tv.

Also noteworthy: PKK, Locktar, ParadokS, Cyan, Insane, Razer, Reload, Griffin, dag, FienD, Mortuary, Thump4, kingpin

There are more notable players, but just from watching Reppie's demos you will get most of their names. Hope this helps.

To see what elite clans there are you can browse http://qw.fragzone.se/eql and http://nqr-network.com/nqr9 which are the two biggest 4on4 leagues around. The absolute top clans these days are Slackers, Fragomatics, Clan Malfunction, Firingsquad, Legeartis and the Viper Squad.
