I played around with windows media encoder yesterday and that could capture a QW window ok. I guess such an approach is quite unreliable when there are many clients connected and it would require a bandwidth of about ((320Kbps * amount of specs) / 1000)Mbit. I'm not sure if these numbers applies to streaming the thing over the internet, i just tried capturing a specified window on my desktop (the ezQuake window when i played a demo) and then checked the wma-file i got as a result. The file played okey, never tried capturing the sound though. www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

hmm, well could maybe work to stream right? I mean most qwers watch in quake hopefully, so just open it up for those who don't really know qizmo n all that, or just doesn't have qw :> that wouldn't require 1000mbit?

Depends on how many people are interested in watching the stream. with the ((320Kbps * amount of specs) / 1000)Mbit formula we'd get (320kbps * 100 specs) / 1000 = 32mbit for a hundred spectators. :F www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

So 300 viewers on a decent 100mbit/s line. Swedish bitches, shout! Something very low for the sound would be enough, 32kbit/s or even 16kbit/s. Isn't there some better alternative to WMA? I bet there more powerful (and non-Windows) encoders out there.

I bet there are other programs that can capture what you see in a window but getting some software to stream other formats to tha intarweb is difficult i think. At least from what i read when i did some research yesterday. You're free to prove me wrong though as i'd really like to see something like this. www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

I have never watched a qwstream but in my experience 320kb/s is much too low. A football stream needs imo around 700kb/s to be enyoyable. I guess it depends on the codec though.

I might now even know what i'm talking about here tbh. When i recorded from the QW window i could choose between 300kbps - 700kbps and 300kbps seemed enough as i watched the output. Maybe the requirements are higher if you're actually going to stream it to the web though. Cheers everyone! www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

Hi all! We Austrians have a Gaming site: www.own3d.at and we often Stream Q3, ET and Warsow Matches. I now asked the the one who is responsible for all this, and he said that it should not be a problem to stream QW Games too. Thats a good news, so you dont have to bother about this anymore. Unfortunately tomorrow is a big Enemy Territory Match going on @ 20.00cet so we can not test that one for the Finals. But afterwards @ 22:30 there should be a Warsow Match with commentary, so there should be a possibility that you can see a fast FPS over Stream. The next thing we have to test out is which config fits best for such Steaming Games. Low Picpimp ? or Eyecandy ? We have to test that, but for the Duelmania and EQL5 this problem should be solved. For everyone who is interessted to see the Stream in Action, just join #qw.at / #own3d.at tomorrow to get IPs to connect on the Stream. Links: own3d.at

Haha, i think i just fell in love with you. This would be awesome! Gonna check the site now :> To see what kind of stuff we could do, there is a Q4 game coming up @ WSVG soon, open in mediaplayer. The game is (US)Fatality vs (SWE)Toxic (world champ, kinda). mms://contra.tsncentral.com/channel2?MSWMExt=.asf www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

Or watch it @ Sop: sop://broker.sopcast.com:3912/15823 but dont expect this quality for our games

That looked very hard to follow at 768kb/s which I got. Maybe its because I didnt know the map etc but it looked hard to follow.

I agree to some extent. But if you thought that was hard to follow you should've seen when they showed teams playing Halo 5on5 CTF before... (pov switching all the time, going from 3rd person to 1st person to irl and whatthefucknot) I don't expect new people to fully comprehend what is going on all of the time when watching a QW game for the first time. However, i think that with an accessible stream that shows high quality Quakeworld games we can get some people interested that makes them try the game and so on. We will get more attention as the game will be available to more people, which is good. www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

Agreed, because to fully understand whats going on in a 4v4, you need 8 views at the same time + a radar But thats not our goal with a Stream. I think a Streams Strengh is that people can access a QW Game easy without any new Software. To be present and to concieve Interrest. Lets see.

ogg is just a container format like avi it does not pick a codec for you

ogg allows you to bundle different audio, video and subtitle streams in one file.

Ok, the ownage cup is soon to start and I hope the EQL do it too. We really intend to stream some of the top upcoming games in the 1v1 ownage cup and my question to you is: Is it possible to scale some of the hud icons for example, the Scores or maybe the death Messages ? You know quality of the streams is not that high, so its very important that certain informations are very big and very visible.

Hey guys. In Order to make a good Stream Lineup I need your help. The quality is not the best, so we have to make Hud much bigger then expected. My question to you ( ezquake dev team, too ) How to make that things bigger. If that is not possible, Stream Games get boring because the observer does not know the score, or whos spectating. plz help
