I'm at a New Years Party, but noone is here yet, so I am borrowing someone's laptop to write about the event, which I will fly to in less than 48 hours from now! I intend to make some video interviews (thanks carmac for the inspiration) and commentary during the LAN, but until then let me write some blablabla...
There are so many good players attending QHLan (duh!), probably 99% are better than me, so I will probably spend most of my time walking around stockholm trying to woo swedish chicks with my Manly American Accent. (Just nod your head...)
So, when trying to come up with the "who is who" list for QHLan 1on1, I was overwhelmed. And of course probably not everyone is fully prepared to give their 100% in the 1on1 (or maybe will play there at all), so who knows who will shine? So I decided to use a *very* subjective measurement to see who I would write about here: who would I beg to get their autograph?
So here they are:
Lornelin. Sigh. I have no clue if he will play 1on1 or any Quake at all. But like a douche I forgot his autograph at Dreamhack, so that's why he is here
XantoM. I don't even know if this guy is a 1on1 player, but if he is, he is a threat just like anyone else from div1. And he is 4on4 god
so I want his autograph.
Valla, the summerjam runnerup, has elite skills on all maps with a great LG power. He will be gigahot in the 4on4 and 2on2 tourney as well!
Lacsap, this guy has knocked players like ParadokS in the past, and he is a good player on LAN, where he feels less pressure than the Other Guy.
Sassa, the Ashol King, has been secretly training his DM6 tactics in an underground government lab in Iran, Drago style. He is also a great guy online (shh, haters), and I can't wait to meet him and get his ali baba signature.
Destrux. I do not think he performed at his full level on Dreamhack, and I think he is still a top4 threat at QHLan!
Razor. Anybody who plays this much with Reppie, has got to have some kind of tricks up his sleeve. He never established himself as a 1on1 winner before like reppie, but never say never. If nothing else, he can create upsets and change the course of the brackets.
I am very interested how
Reppie performs at QHLan. Just like at Dreamhack, I still think he will be the #1 winner. But unlike Dreamhack, we have yet to see if this comes true. What does not kill you, only makes you leeter.
Ake Vader is stronger than I thought in 1on1, taking some maps from div1 players at Dreamhack, despite being troubled by hardware issues. He says he is not coming to QHLan, but I am hoping he will change his mind last-minute.
Milamber. The winner of dm.hu, will have a chance to prove how good he is with the top dogs. I don't know how long he has been practicing recently, but he has that hard-headed approach to 1on1, never saying no. We'll see
The-interceptor. If he takes QHLan seriously, he will win. I think everybody is waiting for the int/locust dm4 games.
Bps. This guy is fun. His chances at top4 in QHLan 1on1 are not the best, but having met him at Dreamhack it will be great to have him around at QHLan anyway.
ParadokS. The pressure is on David Alexander Larsen to see if he can continue his winning streak. I think everybody will anticipate the Reppie/ParadokS games, which never happened in Dreamhack.
Spoink is Germany's best threat to beat some Swedish and Finnish butt in QHLan. He is great on DM6, and that's why I like him.
Mawe. Can he beat Reppie again? Maybe he has been studying some other player's weaknesses in order to get his upset-of-the-lan win this time? We will see.
jOn will have to play something else than DM4 in order to get some official wins. But knowing his DM4 background, it will be interesting how he will play (this time) with greats like serox and locust in the hosue.
Nabbe is another guy who did not perform as best as he can, IMHO, at Dreamhack. He will also be a threat in 2on2 and 4on4, of course.
Serox. The legend from England is coming. And just because he is from there, I am going to say that he will have to 1on1 Sassa in futbal conversation.
Murdoc is not coming because of some typical Slacker whine (hi krab). But if he is, I would really like to meet him and see if he is taller than KovaaK or not :>
LocKtar had a great showing at Dreamhack. What can he do in QHLan?
Locust, the DM4 LG miracle. I am really leaving the best for last here ...
Xalibur ... and finally,
raket. The last 4 players are really good and should end up in top8. Well, the party here is about to start. Soon we will have to start getting used to typing/writing '2008' instead of '2007', and even sooner, we will have the Greatest QW Lan in the world.
Till then!
I'm also interested seeing how KEPTOR (hi int ) does this time. Hopefully he gets some nice 2on2 mate too.
