the Viper Squad wins EQL9 (Div1)

This can't possibly be news to anyone involved with the QuakeWorld scene, however I'm still posting this to congratulate the players from

the Viper Squad on defeating their last opponent

Druidz in the Division 1 final.

By winning the game they secured their 3rd EQL title (2 consecutive), an astonishing record, and one they achieved without ever losing a single match.

What people might be interested in knowing, is that the commentary pack from the final is now available at Challenge-TV. I've also uploaded packs from the semi final games.

If you read on, we have some answers to the questions that were presented to members of both tVS and Druidz prior to the game.

All questions were presented prior to the final, the answers were presented during the live casting of the game

Questions for

Druidz

1. Do you think the group game will be an indicator, do you think drz have a chance?
No. That was then. Reppie had a really bad day.

2. Is reppie learning swedish to talk on coms?
Yea he's learned alot swedish lately. Understanding the most common words etc, but also some good to know words like "beroendeframkallande" and "svampinfektion".

3. How will you counter the finnish machine?
I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.

4. What map(s) do you think you have the biggest chance on?
The Claustrophobopolis

5. Who is it that take charge on comms (if anyone), and who is it that has the worst temper?
no particular in charge. Worst temper: gob <3

6. What do you think of the initiative the Nations cup?
Very good idea and well executed as well.

7. What do you think of the CA tournament that has come up recently?
Actually I'm surprised with how fun it was to play that 1 official Fusion game vs. Na Fianna! It was really exciting.

8. What will happen after this EQL final? Will you move on as a team or will you separate and play other games?
Summer break coming up! Oh lord we need it. But DreamHack will be a short comeback. We have no plans on separation and will be back for next season kickin' some tVS ass.

9. What team(s) in the history of QW would you like to comeback and face you in your current form?
Lege Artis, undoubtedly.

Questions for

the Viper Squad

1. Do you think the group game will be an indicator, do you think drz have a chance?
I had to check what happened in that game.

We have played some tight pracs with them so I don't expect an easy win.

2. Is XantoM speaking finish on coms?
Not more than saying 'hi' in Finnish

3. Will you hit the 400 frag marker during the game?
I sure hope so. Before every game we have been joking 'ok now 400 hundred boys' but we have been falling short so far.

4. What map is druidz biggest chance?
Good question. I don't really know, I think they can win any map really.

5. Who is it that take charge on comms (if anyone), and who is it that has the worst temper?
Ihminen is sometimes explaining a lot of item times and game events for others. We don't lose temper in officials. In pracs me (blAze) and Ihminen sometimes start to argue about something. It is, ofc, always his fault.

6. What opponent is the hardest to face? (on each of TB3?)
SR is great on dm3 and e1m2 but weak in dm2, drz is good on every map. 3b was great in kenyas (not played in EQL9 though).

7. You lost one map in the groupstages vs 3b and they didn't even make it to the playoffs any comment on that?
That is disappointing, I would have wanted to see 3b in playoffs. They did stop playing almost completely when EQL9 started,
even though they were the most active team until that. Hopefully they are not gone for good, they had a really promising team.

8. Do you think its a good idea to stack even more top players in the same team, making things even less close
It can be good for the team even if it's not for the scene. You can't blame a company for trying to make maximum profit, because that is the reason they exist. Quake teams exist to win.

9. After last seasons tVS announced that they were retiring from 4on4. Why did you change your minds?
Hmm did we say that? Perhaps we meant temporarily? I don't think I ever meant to quit for good. Me (blAze) and Milton were away last summer, as we are this summer as well. So at least we will be on a summer break. I don't mind continuing after summer if there is still leagues and teams to play.

10. Recruiting Xantom has secured your fourth man position, is that what separates you from your fellow finnish CMF?
It's true that when it really matters you can not have a weak link as fourth. I think there are more differences though especially in the attitude. CMF is dangerous but they also give up quite easily after a bad start etc and end up making human pyramids at dm3 penta.

11. What team(s) in the history of QW would you like to comeback and face you in your current form?
FF probably. I don't think teams before that could be dangerous in modern QW even if they pracced and teams after that are not as legendary.

12. What do you think of the initiative the Nations cup? You won vs NL in the finals with a big margin is there any country
that you think would be able to beat finland?
I think QNC was excellent league and a great idea. Very well run by johnny_cz. I think Sweden with right players (riker, nabbe, valla, xantom, etc) could do much better than they have so far in QNC.

13. What do you think of the CA tournament that has come up recently? You have only played a few games but are you surprised by the competition?
It's another good idea. I played a lot of CA many years ago. The competition is not surprising because I have understood that there are players or even teams who have played CA more seriously and more recently. We are noobs in CA.

In pracs me (blAze).. so that's blAze talking for tVS, don't know about Drz tho.

Anyways thanks for this season EQL crew and everyone who helped with whatever! Really enjoyed it from a spectator view and as a player. gg!

Oh yeah, sorry for missing that one, I did add (blAze) to the first "me". The questions were delivered to Druidz and tVS, I don't know who answered the Druidz questions, I would think either all members or bps, as it was returned in a txt. But for tVS it was answered by blAze.

Adde came up with the questions and it was he who got the answers.

I was both happy and surprised by the number of people interested in helping out after being asked directly. Since whenever I ask in the open, here or using .qw - I never get any feedback. If we are going to continue to bring quality leagues/coverage/events - we need more people to come forward and contribute.

This season was great, but I hope for an even better fall/winter season.

I contacted zapp this season if I could write some div3 coverage which was fine, but the fact I had to ask again for further updates held me down a bit. So for next season, allthough it's still quite far away, I'm willing to volunteer for some coverage/writing. Admin is probably a bit too much for my spare time tho.
