Yesterday, the members of the clan known as
Druidz decided to part ways. The team started out as
Star Alliance in 2008, with a mixture of top duel players and solid high-level 4on4 players. During their time as a team they showed to be one of the bigger surprises in modern QuakeWorld, as they, with their high motivation and hard work, quickly advanced into the top of division 1.
Read on for a statement from
bps about the disbanding of the team.
Their first season started with a 3rd place in NQR and ended with a 2nd place in EQL. Since then, they have won the 4on4 tournament at QHLAN12, had players in the finals of all DreamHack tournaments and played another EQL final. Besides the good results, the team also showed that QuakeWorld can go hand-in-hand with the modern gaming community, when they by the end of 2008, joined up with the Swedish eSports organisation
Druidz.
During the last season of EQL, the team was probably the most active and ambitious team of the top division. The decision to close down the team is a result of not all players being able to devote the time needed, to keep competing on the highest level of competitive 4on4.
With EQL10 just around the corner, the loss of last season's runner-up might come as a blow to the the already diminished top division. However
bps reasures that this should not be the case, the disbanding of the team doesn't mean that the players will quit QuakeWorld, and we might see most - if not all play under different banners for this upcoming season.
Already
bps has joined up with his former team
Suddendeath where he will play with
arnette
grisling, and
molle. What will happen with the rest of the players is still unknown, but most likely we will see them join up with teams, that have a less demanding training pattern.
What will happen with the QuakeWorld division of the
Druidz organisation is unknown, as they have not made a public announcement yet.
Druidz consisted of these players: bps
goblin
Lakso
LocKtar
Mawe
Razor
Reppie
Statement from bpsI'm sad to announce that Druidz qw team yesterday decided to dissolve. It's since most of its players intend to go idle/semi-idle this season due to real life things or lack of motivation for high level playing. This includes reppie, razor, lakso, mawe and goblin. And LocKtar never played 4on4. For me, I'm thinking forward and am currently discussing with Suddendeath to form a new squad there. However, it came up during our talks last night that none of the players intend to quit completely. Just new constellations. Who knows what the future brings...
We've had a really good time together, and have become very good friends. Always having alot of fun on the lan events (qh/dh), but even getting together just to party in the sun. This summer we (me,lakso,LocKtar, mawe) took a roadtrip down to reppie's place in Holland for a few days, which was awsome. And last season of QW was very exciting, getting to the finals by beating Slackers in the semi 3-2, and giving Viper Squad a good fight felt really good to all of us. Ahhh, it's been an amazing time!
So, good games and see you around
