Considered by most as the best active QW player of recent years, with his team the Viper Squad he has won every major 4on4 tournament for the past 3 years. Now returning to the competitive duel scene after 6 year absence, a lot of pressure is on Milton as he is by far considered the top favorite.

You havn't played in any duel tournaments since you won duelmania 3, and the season after duelmania.fi. What made you sign up for Ownage #3? I remember you saying that you don't enjoy duel competitions that much
I don't know really why I signed up now. I still don't enjoy duel competitions nor duels in quakeworld. Especially dm2/dm6 and dm4 to some extend are bad maps for competitive 1on1. Luck can play such a huge role in those maps.

Do you then enjoy the other duel maps, the "newer" ones?
Doomed and skull are nice and they could, in my opinion, replace dm2 and dm6.

What about the maps actually in the map pool, ztndm3 and aerowalk? Any of those you favor?
Aerowalk works quite well in 1on1 although I don't really like it, and ztndm3 is great. I can enjoy dm4 also but it can be a sucky map in tournaments.

What do you think about the recent talks about making all matches best of 5?
I don't know how it should be since I haven't thought about it at all before. Maybe bo5 is ok for all games.
Playing bo5 might reduce the effects of luck in a long run, one SHOULDN'T have luck in three rounds in a row.

For the past few years, people have considered you the current "king of quakeworld". Do you feel there are players who are better than you, players who you fear?
I don't fear players. It's just a game afterall. I've been concentrating in almost only 4on4 because it's in my opinion the best and most entertaining gamemode we have and I think I'm pretty good there.
In duels on the other hand it can be different. We have many players who never or rarely touch 4on4 and play a lot of duels and surely these players can give me a great challenge and beat me also.

Could you name some of the players, who you think might give you a challenge?
heh, there are many. xpr, rikoll, arnette, bps, mawe, locust, locktar, lacsap, martin, fifi, bulat, avenger, bandit - Probably forgot some, xenic at least.
And ah, of course the American players, I'm looking forward to getting my ass kicked with 90 ping.

Now even tho you say there are plenty of players who can give you a good challenge. After you signed up for Ownage, some have been joking that they are now all just fighting for second place, what is your comment on that?
I think they are overestimating my skills or underestimating everyone else. In a long tournament like this almost anything can happen between relatively evenly skilled players. Some lucky spawns or one bad decision can make the difference.
I don't think I'm the best in every map anyway. I just have to hope that I'm the better / luckier player in at least three of them against everyone I face .

So you think that you overrated?
If someone thinks that I absolutely can't lose this tournament then I think I am. I will do my best but I have my bad days also and it's possible for me to lose too.
And like I said before, duels aren't my top priority anyway. Other players have played duels a lot more recently so it should be a good challenge for me.

How far do you expect to make it in the tournament?
With this map pool we have too many random variables to "expect" anything.
Of course a lot depends on the brackets and the players I'll be facing. But I didn't join to lose.

Known for his stylish (and sometimes silly?) play on dm2, he has been a consistent player in the playoffs of duel tournaments for a very long time. He is the raging champion of DreamHack and has won the title 3 times in a row. He is yet to win a QHLAN duel title even tho he has made it to the playoffs for the past 3 years. Was awarded the Warzon Trophy at QHLAN12.

You've gotten a pretty high seed, something that was to be expected after your long run of good performances, but how do you feel your form is right now?
My current shape is good, I cant deny that, I have played whenever I have free time and it feels very nice!

And compared to your QHLAN form?
My qhlan form was not that bad, it was ok back then aswell, but now there are many stars that have signed up so the mind will be where it should be this tournament. QHLAN was a joke in my eyes, both me and bps underestimated our opponents at qh, this is a whole new situation, and i think both me and bps wont give away anything this time =)

You say that you underestimated your opponents at QHLAN, do you then plan to making that show if you should end up in a match against Rikoll?
I beat both Rikoll and zero in group games quite easy, so I did not prepare to get serious at all when i faced zero again in the quarterfinal, and all of a sudden he won. If I'm up against Rikoll on Ownage I'm not worried at all that my performance will be the best it could be on that day!

In the final of Ownage #2 you lost to avenger, if you were to face avenger this season, do you think that the result will be different?
I'm gonna keep my statement from last season, I could not play my game with that ms. My style does not fit that ping, countless of times I died when I KNOW I should'nt have, 40ms is playable, 50ms was not for me. avenger is always a hard game, and I hope we can meet eachother again with 40ms =)

You're known for your unique style of play on dm2, but is dm2 still your favorite map? Are there other maps you like more atm?
dmtvå is always nice to play, but nowdays I have played more dm4 aerowalk and dm6. I really dont know what my favourite is atm, I'm starting to enjoy aerowalk alot... but still, dm6 is also nice... =)

As you might know, there recently was a discussion about swapping the current "best of three" structure we use, with a "best of five", what is your thought on that?
All I can say is I like it the way it is now.

With the large amount of top players participating in Ownage #3, who do you fear the most of your competitors?
Fear and fear, I'm thinking more who I would like to play, to win this tournament you have to beat everyone. But as always, tough opponents, locust, bps, mawe the russian/polish dudes.. and of-course milton, will be nice to see how much damage he can do, really cool of him to participate.

If any, who do you think is missing from the tournament? Are there anyone who you would have loved to see signup?
Hmm, I think all the active quakers that can play 1on1 has signed up, ofc it would be fun to see a comeback from some old dog, but that wont happen. Like when former ff-jerry made a fast comeback in the challenge thingy, they have alot of caching up to do to stand a chance.

How far do you expect to make it in the tournament?
Funny thing this season, on a really good day, the top 10players can surely beat eachoter, so no one is safe! And that's one of the reasons this season will be the most thrilling ever!
But ofc I have high expectations, I hope I can contend in the top 5 atleast!

Who do you see as the winner of Ownage #3?
Milton is without doubt the top favourite, but he also has the most pressure to perform, can he handle it? =)

New school Norwegian player (how rare is that?) who recently won the QHLAN13 duel tournament. Made probably one of the fastest climbs to the top of dueling in QuakeWorld, after having played only 2 years. He was awarded the Warzon Trophy at QHLAN13 for his impressive play.

For this season we have a lot of top players participating, with your recent accomplishment of winning QHLAN, do you see yourself as a contender for the Ownage title?
Yes I do. I'm far from a favorite as there's plenty of stronger players than me in this tourney, but I know I could pull it off if I have good days vs the good players.

Do you think that you won QHLAN because the other players underestimated you? Or were you the best player there?
Well I'm aware that many people think I wasn't really the best at that LAN. I do however feel that I was the best player that day when the playoffs were played. I kept cool, won a BO5 vs BPS that I don't think many players today could have pulled off, and eventually won 3-1 vs zero in the final who beat Locktar in the semi's.
I think the results speaks for themselves on who were actually best in that tourney, without saying that I'm a better duel player.

How is your current form compared to the time at QHLAN?
I'd say my form is slightly worse due to mouse change (since I actually pushed my DeathAdder sunder on QHLAN). Seems to take me a lot of time to get 100% back to the feel I had with my previous mouse. Its pretty close, so I would say I'm now at about 95% of what I was at QHLAN. Also ping will be a considerable challenge. 12 vs 25 matter alot imo, when just one ms can be the difference of life or death, victory or loss.

You're a fairly "young" player in qw terms, do you see it possible for you to take down some of the giants who has played this game for almost 15 years?
Yeah I would have to pull something like that off to reach the semis, which is my slightly realistic goal of this tourney .
Even though some players have played for 15 years, I've played alot the last two years, probably more than the veterans, and is competitive as f*ck! I consider myself to be a better tourney player than "casual" game player as well. I promise to do my best at least to knock one or two giants down to losers bracket in this tho.

Seeing as there is a lot of top players participating, are there any in particular you "fear" going up against?
There's only one player I consider my chance of winning against in a BO3 or BO5 to be close to 0, and that's Milton. The rest of the top players should be doable on a good day, even though they are more probable to beat me of course.

As you might know, there recently was a discussion about swapping the current "best of three" structure we use, with a "best of five", what is your thought on that?
I don't see a reason to use BO5 in the early stages. Will just take longer time and make it harder to schedule games. My guess is that it would just lead to less games being actually played, and add close to nothing to "fairness".

Would that be better or worse for your game?
The effect it have on my game wouldn't be much, but it would lead to a more exhausting tourney. I only feel I have one really weak map atm anyway.

How far do you expect to make it in the tournament?
Theres alot of hot names in this tourney, so it is gonna be tough. I think I'll reach the quarter finals. After that I think it depends alot on who I'm facing and how I feel that particular day.

Old school solid 4on4 player, have played at the very top of QuakeWorld for many years and with his team Fragomatic have achieved great results. Coming out of retirement just last season, he is still yet to make a big impact.

You've recently made a "comeback" in QuakeWorld after being away for a couple of seasons, what made you pick up the game again?
The reason I quit in the first place was that I was busy with work and other things. When I got more time I made some games playing on my laptop and kinda realized I actually missed playing again, especially 4on4 so I decided I'd make a comeback when eql10 was starting.

When was the last time you participated in a duel tournament?
Quakeworld Summerjam during july 2007 and Ownage season 1, was sometime during 2007 as well.

In the Summerjam you placed fairly good, (2nd if i remember correctly?) How is your current form compared to back then?
I played alot back then, being that I was playing in Slackers around that time. I did quite a few games vs lacsap among other people, I'd have to say my duelform was a lot better back then although I think I'm a better player today overall.
I've done a few duel games here and there, It's ok but not at the level of todays topplayers

What are your expectations for the tournament? How far do you expect to make?
With 151 signups and counting, I'm expecting alot of real nice games. I think this season is gonna be one of the better recently, with pretty much everyone of todays top players signing up.
I've never made it past top8 in a big duel tournament and I don't really expect to go any further this season either, I'd say top10 and I'm happy.

As you mention, pretty much all the top players of today are signed up. Do you think there are any players missing from the tournament? Are there anyone who you would have loved to see signup?
Well yeah, pretty much anyone that has made a name for themself playing the game.
fifi, gamer, dag, griffin, reppie etc... just naming a few, those people back in shape would make it the best tournament ever.

You say your goal is top8, who do you see as the winner of Ownage #3 then?
Hard to say, the top5 is definitely bps, milton, locktar, avenger, locust and I'd say anyone of them could win it.
Although Milton seems to have a small edge from what I've seen of his duel games, very solid on all 5 maps. I think the other players have atleast 1-2 maps which they can lose at on a bad day.

Now that you mention maps, what maps do you consider your favourite, best and worst map?
I'd say my best maps are the standard maps (dm4/dm6/dm2). My worst at the moment have to be aerowalk.
As for favourite maps it kinda depends, I actually like playing aerowalk even if I don't play well on it, it has a nice balance and is actually the only map that favours offensive playing
But dm4 and dm6 are probably the maps I like the most seeing as those are the maps I've played for all these years

What do you consider your force when going up against stronger opponents?
Dm6, most top players hate that map and don't play well on it. Other than that I dunno, defensive playing I guess. Haven't played alot of duel recently so I don't really know how big the gap is to the top players of today, but I can probably do some damage on any map apart from aero/ztndm3.

More games = more fun. I think it can work, it's a nice practice if anything getting to play all five maps. And it kinda defeats the luckfactor which we've seen in a few games in duel tournaments where dm2, for example, is the decider and it ends in a rather boring cs fest.
I think it could be a nice addition in the future to play all maps instead of just three, it has worked nicely in the polish clanwarz league and I'd like to see it used more.

Something that you would like to add?
I noticed lacsap signed up so this season is gonna be $$$ - if he gets in shape, could be sweet.

Russian player known for his outstanding play on ZTNDM3, he has shown that he's got the edge to challenge most top Scandinavian players. Usually makes it to the final rounds of international duel tournaments and with quite some Russian titles under his belt, he is surely a player not to underestimate.

You are the top seeded Russian player, do you think that you can live up to the expectations people have?
Dunno really, there are a lot of good players signed up, top-10 would be fine
My lg aim is below average level, if I improve it then I can cope with top players. It's kinda annoying when your lg 25 and enemy 45% on aero (vs locust), way too big difference.

How do you feel that your current qw form is?
My form is ok, need more pracs vs good players tho.

No I signed up to play with best players and handle pressure, i don't fear them.

What are your expectations for the tournament? How far do you expect to make it?
I checked signups and counted ~10 players, which can beat me, so my expectation is top-10.

What do you consider your force/advantage when going up against stronger opponents?
Sneaky tactics I guess, I try to attack when feeling the weakness of my enemy and I try to not give away frags too easily.

It's nice, that should minimize luckbox'es, who can play 2 maps of 5 Bo5 is a more fair system for me.

Known probably more for the drama surrounding him, than his actual game. He is however a very good aerowalk player, and only few other players can beat him on this map. Very active in the late night games, and has been very consistent with practising throughout 2009.

You've been very active over a long period, do you think this will be a factor when you will go up against lesser active top players?
I play only a few random aero's and dm6's now and then to be honest, so have to say that I'm not at all an active dueler atm.

How do you feel that your current qw form is?
I feel my current 4on4 form is quite good, but having some performance dips lately, irl distractions probably :S
Not playing much duel at all lately, but I know I can beat most players on dm6 and aero, and dm2 with some luck/cs, my ztn and dm4 skills are really bad compared to the best.

We have many top players signed up for this season, are there any of the players that your fear going up against?
I dont fear any player, but of course you want to avoid the top dogs as long as possible. Examples being Milton, Avenger, locust, LocKtar, but other players can ofc knock me out too. Nerves > skill sometimes =)

What are your expectations for the tournament? How far do you expect to make it?
This season I cant say my hopes to go far are high, considering my overall tb5 skill and current duel activity, but I'll try harder than last season I think and give my best in every match this time

What do you consider your force when going up against stronger opponents?
In the case of me beating a stronger opponent. It's most probably not by outaiming them but rather outsmarting and playing defence, making them work real hard for frags, forcing them to do mistakes or take chances.
So I would say my force in those cases would be my tactics, can't do much on ztn or dm4 vs a top-player there though.

When thinking about it I cant say it's either really positive or really negative, in a way it gives perhaps a better look into players skills on all the maps, as more maps would have to be played. At the same time I feel the old system is perfect as it is, feels as if every frag and action counts more if its BO3 instead of BO5.
If you ask me, I'm for the old system, but wouldn't mind the new one either I guess, but I'd probably vote for the old.

You kind of already answered this, but out of the current map pool, what maps do you consider your favourite, best and worst map?
Favourite and best is easily Aerowalk for me, I know I can beat anyone here when playing good and focused, DM6 coming on a very strong second place, both in terms of liking the map and skills on it
Worst map would have to be ztndm3 without a doubt, on DM4 I know some basic strategies, just not good at the execution of them, but on ztn I'm quite lost

There are quite a few missing, but most of them are long gone or completely inactive or just wont sign up , players like ParadokS, XalibuR, Mutilator, Dag, GriffiN, Phantasy, Interceptor, Gamer, Hib.. As you see there are quite a few missing imo, having all or even some of those in on this season of ownage would totally own.

Who do you see as the winner of Ownage #3?
Thinking really hard on this question , and to be honest I would rather say 3 players I think have what it takes to win: Milton, Avenger, LocKtar

Are you going to stir up some good CHTV kingpin drama for all your fans?
Hehe, CHTV drama depends on if I win my games or not, so hopefully there will be a lot of wins, and thereby a lot of drama
There are some players that, if we cross paths in tournament, will surely create some drama matches. I'm not saying any names, but when and if I get to play one of them the drama will be felt

Finnish player yet to break into the very top of the international duel scene, he is however a very solid player who can take on any of the top contenders and do very good if he chooses to.

You're seeded pretty high in Ownage #3 together with your fellow countrymen (fifi/fix/milton/diki), do you think that we will see a Fin take the title?
I hope so, Milton is in my opinion the strongest candidate for the title this season, and I'm quite sure he will bring it to Finland

Seeing as there is quite many top players signed up for this season, are there any of the players that your fear going up against?
Quite many to be honest, there's Milton who can beat you on any map, and there is a big variety of guys that are really hot on different maps, so every game is going to be a different kinda challenge.

What do you consider your force or advantage when going up against stronger opponents?
Lightning gun aim is quite good, so I know I can push ppl "back" a bit and force them to think before attacking blindly, which on the other hand gives me more time to plan my next move

What are your expectations for the tournament? How far do you expect to make it?
Expectations about the tournament in general is to see some great games, a lot of activity on the scene, some nice frags and of course a fellow Fin to take title. I'd expect to get atleast to top 20, but who knows.

How do you feel that your current qw form is?
I've been away for a while now, haven't really played that much, apart from few povs with diki and occasional 2on2's, but nothing that a couple days intense practice wont fix

Do you think that will be a factor when going up against more active players, or do you think that your routine will do?
Of course it will be a factor, seeing that everyone participating have been pracing a lot lately, and I haven't.
Really cant expect to just walk in and win games. Routine won't bring anyone far on the tourney, as there is so many players with different styles, you gotta know when to adjust your own game.

As I'm not sure if this idea was to make ppl play every map on the pool(possibly), or just to give the opportunity to play a bit more tourney quake, I'd say "Why not".

DM4 and Aerowalk are the best for me, quite similar to eachother. Aero being a bit more balanced with armours and stuff, and ofc they both have lg and the chance to own with it .
DM6 has been, and always will be my worst map. I just don't get it: how to play it, how to attack on it, nothing! Altho I managed to play ParadokS-like on it in Ownage #1 against tom and made an awesome comeback to win the game, but sadly it seemed to be once.

With ParadokS not active for this season, you are probably the best Danish player participating, do you think you can live up to the legend?
Haha, well to be honest.. no, but last Ownage I was in the semi finals I think, so that was more than I expected.
I am only playing for fun (I usually only play festher in 1on1's, because he is easy )

You made a qw comeback two seasons ago, and was a very solid player back in the early days of qw, do you consider yourself a better player now? Compared to back then?
Yeah, because the hardware (computer, mouse, monitor etc.) is way better now and speedjumping is more used these days, but I sure miss my logitech pilot 3 button mouse without wheel. I had to change cfg because of the lame wheel, but now I will soon have a new 3 button OPTICAL mouse without wheel, so be ware!

Oh, what mouse is that? The optical 3 button one without wheel?

How do you feel that your current qw form is?
Not that good, I almost never play anymore... Only at some LANs with the good old NBI guys, and the skill level there is not that high.

Nah, I don't fear going up against anyone, but many of the good players know their tricks around every map there is. I'm more basic, so if I have to win against the good players, I'll need some good spawns

Not as far as last time, but you never know... I will do okay I think, but I will probably not be in the top 10.

It's gonna be more fair I think, because in best of 3 if you get lucky spawns in the first game, it will sometimes break the opponent, causing you to win the next map as well.

My best map is dm4, that's almost the only one I play when playing duels (as I only play vs festher). Worst maps are kenya I think, because I'm too oldschool.

CPM player introduced to QuakeWorld at the DreamHack summer event in 2009, known for his deadly LG aim. He has been away from gaming for roughly 7 months due to military service, but is now making his comeback into gaming.

So, you've signed up for season three of Ownage, how come?
QW is great game and I want to show my appreciation to the game by signing up. I think that many singups should inspire more players to try out the game.

You're known mainly as a CPM player, except for the DreamHack tournament last year, how much experience do you have with QuakeWorld?
I've played quake since it's release really but I never got into "competitive" gaming or whatever it is until 200x. I didn't even know what bunnyhop was until in q3, when a friend of mine showed it in CPM.
I just played with 56k and called everyone cheater because of some hook mod back in the day. After 2000 I was interested in cpm and then in qw - played it randomly after that.
Now I'm kinda seriously interested in qw after that tournament at DreamHack. Because of the community and I noticed how great the game really is competitively.

Considering that you have been in the army for quite some time. How do you feel that your current qw form, and fps form in general is?
I think my "physical" skills if you can call em that, are in great shape. But when it comes to the tactical side, etc. I'm quite bad still.

What are your expectations for the tournament? How far do you expect to make it?
I'm really glad if I beat my first 4 opponents, I take this as practise to see how people really play in cups.

Do you think that your CPM skillset will transfer well into QW? What aspect of your CPM game do you think can benefit your QW game?
I think all games support eachother in one way or another, that's why i play like everything. CPM and QW are maybe the most similar gameplays that there are in dm games, yet they are really far away.
I belive playing poker will help in someway even, haha.

LocKtar or bps, only cuz im fan

Seeing as you are mostly known as a Quake3 player, how much experience do you have with QuakeWorld?
I've played around 20-30 games of qw and I was never into promode in q3 so my experience isn't that great.

What made you sign up for Ownage?
I got tired of beating stev, hoens, ddk and fern so I felt the need to look for people who can actually play and not just bitch on mumble.

You have played at the very top of Quake3 and Quake4, how do you see your skillset translate into qw?
How well my skillset translate into qw? It's like using babelfish. Although some general thinking applies quite well, like timing and knowing when to calm down and not go swemo.

How do you feel that your current form is? Do you actively play one of the other quake games?
I don't remember the last time i played quake live. There is no enjoyment in that game to be found and there are no updates (as far as i know) whatsoever at the moment. So my form in that game is awful. I don't think it matters though because qw is a completely different game.

You mentioned that you have only played 20-30 games in QW, are you going to practice hard to do good in Ownage?
I'm not, i just play now and then for fun

What are your expectations for the tournament? How far do you expect to make it?
My goal is to win a game And i hope to get further than ddk and fern.

With the current map pool, what maps do you consider your best and worst map?
I stick to ztn and aerowalk a lot because I'm too lazy to learn new maps. I'd say dm6 is my worst eventhough I haven't even tried dm4.

Are there any maps from the other games that you've played, that you think would be good in qw?
That's a tough question, I think the old q3 maps wouldn't fit that great and the new ql maps are really lackluster. Perhaps t7? It would mean an easy win for me due to all my opponents falling asleep.

This might be hard for you to answer, but who do you see as the winner of Ownage #3?
I would have to say milton, due to peoples mancrushes on him . Altho I'm too horrible/new to tell, he seems like the best (only watched very few demos overall).

What are your impression of QuakeWorld, what do you think about the scene and the game?
The game seems like retro quake3 on crack (it's a good thing). As for the community, I only talk to stev (aka qw wikipedia) and a few others, so I dont know much about the community. It seems more mature but also more elitist than for example the ql community. Positive impression overall!

Some shoutouts for rivals and fans?
Shoutouts to hoens who needs to cry less when he gets bummed. It's getting pathetic. Also I axed ddk once(true story). Thanks for the interview <3
