since the id maps are open source now, i was thinking how about implementing multiple arena support into QW?
this concept resembles Rocket Arena 3 mod for Quake3. so.. let me be more specific:

- take dm2/dm4/dm6 sources and make a map containing all three (or make a map containing 3 x dm2, or (3 x dm6 + 3 x dm2 + 3 x dm4), or what combination you like and we can set as standard)
- when connecting to a server running this map the player is given a choice for what arena he should join

this means multiple duels can happen at the same time.
people won't have to sit in line and watch some random game when they can join another arena and bounce on the map until a new player joins in.

or better yet: a group of people can join a server and organise a mini-duel competition with a MVDSV in-built automated bracket thingie

feel free to add in ideas.. this might turn quite useful

If I would have to choose I'd rather see implementation of the idea which Tonik first talked about that would allow legally play dm1-dm6 e?m? maps without buying Quake...
IMHO This idea here in main post is like 10 times less needed.

Would this require less resources than just hosting another bunch of 1on1 servers instead of doing the multiple arenas thingie? Otherwise i can't see any real benefit, other than that it's a cool feature of course.

Hey, now I realized I'm doing exactly the thing I hate most. Someone comes up with a new idea and many people that just don't see the benefits pop-up and only say that they don't think it brings anything good. So sorry! And please someone show example scenario where/why this could be usefull.

multiple duels on a single server?

if a bunch of players have a very good ping on a server they don't have to line-up in queue to play..
they don't have to waste time looking for other empty servers which they might have higher pings on..
they can pick who to play with and on which map

stuff like that

Good idea, but hardcore coding is a must to implement it
It's like if server (mvdsv) and mod (ktx) will be rewritten from scratch =:-)

well it has been done in Quake3 through the RA3 mod.
i guess the tools for mod developing in Quake3 are far more powerful.

i'm too much of an idealist then

But if you have three arena's filled and someone wants to join your arena, can you deny him acces to yours (and your opponents) arena?
Custom maps for the show, episodes for the pro.

well you might vote to lock the arena for a maximum of matches set in the server

arena_matchlock "3" // number of matches for the arena to be locked with the same players
