I'm planning to add addons to nQuake within the year I have already completed addons for rocket arena, ctf and team fortress Just curious, are you guys still planning to release the addons? http://quakeservers.nquake.com/resources/ They aren't especially polished, but they work.

I just looked at Google analytics...
20 percent of the visitors during the past year were from USA.
Isn't that strange?

I don't find it strange, it's posted on ESR every time we do coverage of big games, they have a large US userbase...
Maybe looking at the top referrers apart from google.* would be a better indicator of where people come from.

nQuake package should be revised.
There are lots of duplicate files, in .pak and then in \textures, mostly hud related.
And why not update it with the tracker simple icons http://gfx.quakeworld.nu/details/322/rtracker-simple/ and the new textures from Moon[Drunk] QRP ?
Oh, and the new lit files from Tonik ?

Ok, I have submitted all the suggestions to the tracker - http://qw-dev.net/projects/nquake/issues Let me know here or in the tracker if you have more. Thanks!
I will try to deal with all those after ezQuake 2.1 release.

Isn't that strange? And that's 20% of an awful lot of visits/downloads if i remember correctly. Wasn't it like at least 10,000 downloads a month for a while? Would be interesting to know why the player_convert/download ratio seems so incredibly small. :} www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

I will try to deal with all those after ezQuake 2.1 release. Well, since you mention it: - nQuake package could inform users to register for Quake Ladder once the project is complete - Console Font could be updated with a new more refined and modern look - Remove default.cfg from pak0.pak (no point loading 1996 commands) - Update commands in config.cfg like in_builtinkeymap 0, in_mouse 3, sb_sourcemark QuakeServers.net, sb_findroutes 1, r_particles_count 32768 I once mentioned in_mouse 3 should allow to select what mouse to load in case user has 2 pointing devices.

Some of these duplicate files are there for a reason, i.e. to allow removal of some pak files without messing up the game. Not sure if the duplicates you are referring to belong to this category though. And why not update it with the tracker simple icons http://gfx.quakeworld.nu/details/322/rtracker-simple/ Looks like a good addition to nQuake and the new textures from Moon[Drunk] QRP ? Good idea. Oh, and the new lit files from Tonik ? Also a good idea.

- Console Font could be updated with a new more refined and modern look This is a question of taste. Do you have any suggestions though? - Remove default.cfg from pak0.pak (no point loading 1996 commands) This cannot be done since we can't modify the shareware pak0.pak without breaking license agreements. - Update commands in config.cfg like in_builtinkeymap 0, in_mouse 3, sb_sourcemark QuakeServers.net, sb_findroutes 1, r_particles_count 32768 Thanks for the suggestions. I once mentioned in_mouse 3 should allow to select what mouse to load in case user has 2 pointing devices. Is this an ezQuake request perhaps?

I recommend bugs3 charset! Check any Quakeklan report by me from EQL12 for example.

Updated nQuake a while ago (will take some time until mirrors reflect these changes)
- updated ezQuake to 2.1 stable - added fragfile.dat - made server browser mark all the current master servers by default - updated server file sources and sources list itself too - changed in_builtinkeymap to 0 - updated lit files with Tonik's "less in-your-face" lits - added "Simple" tracker images by _KaszpiR_
I did not update QRP textures, in current nQuake there's a special re-compressed jpg pack so it takes up only ~21 MB, while the QRP original tga pack is 197 MB. I don't feel like recompressing the files myself. I am not sure which compression level is adequate and I don't have time to play with this.
If QRP team releases some "LQ" jpg pack or so, I'll happily update nQuake with that.
I hope I didn't cock anything up!

Some of these duplicate files are there for a reason, i.e. to allow removal of some pak files without messing up the game. Not sure if the duplicates you are referring to belong to this category though. Not sure what you mean by messing up the game, but if you want to preserve the textures/models that come with nQuake its better to have them in .pak/pk3 and corresponding directories created and empty, so if user wants to update things, just needs to place them in (directories files override .pak/pk3 files when loaded). List of duplicate files: ..\ezquake\base.pk3\textures\tracker\ and ..\qw\textures\tracker\ (the axe in pk3 is different) ..\ezquake\hud.pk3\textures\wad\ and ..\qw\textures\wad\ ..\qw\g_weapons.pak\progs\ (all files) and ..\qw\debug.pak\progs\ ..\qw\projectiles.pak\progs\ (all files) and ..\qw\debug.pak\progs ..\qw\v_weapons.pak\textures\models\ (all files) and ..\qw\textures\models\ ..\qw\models.pak\progs\vspike.md3 and ..\id1\progs\v_spike.mdl (don't know if mdl is needed with md3) ..\qw\runes.pak\progs\end2.md3,end3.md3,end4.md3 and ..\id1\progs\end2.mdl,end3.mdl,end4.mdl (don't know if mdl is needed with md3) I still think config.cfg could be tuned. JohnNy_cz you forgot to change cl_useimagesinfraglog to value 1, among other things...

Thanks for the report MatriX, noting it all down into nQuake issue tracker. Will revisit it when I'm updating nQuake again.

The spike.mdl and end2-4.mdl files are there to prevent error messages when pak1.pak is missing.

Windows weenie here, but I am tinkering with Ubuntu since the only game I really play alot is QW and I'm thinking I might switch to linux eventually. Trying to install nQuake and get this error:
=== Downloading === --2011-10-15 12:10:10-- http://quakeservers.nquake.com%0D/demos.zip Resolving quakeservers.nquake.com\r... failed: Name or service not known. wget: unable to resolve host address `quakeservers.nquake.com\r' Error: Some distribution files failed to download. Better luck next time. Exiting.
Kinda looks like a DNS issue but I can surf web pages with no issues.
Tried all 3 mirrors with same result. Someone please point out what kind of n00b error I am making please?
Thanks

In the install script? Or in the ini it looks for on the nquake server?

It's probably the nquake.ini file that is messed up.

I ended up copying my nQuake folder over from the windows partition, deleted the windows files, downloaded EZQuake and copied the glx from the archive to the folder. Running great except in Ubuntu I can't globally reduce the bass for my cheap-ass speakers so it sounds horrible.
Unity sucks and I am more than annoyed with Gnome 3 but life goes on.

Replaced windows newlines with unix newlines. Let me know if this changed anything.

i see the latest version of EZQuake (2.1) supports the map pack with simple textures compiled from the GPL sources
does this mean nQuake can discard the requirement for pak1.pak by including those?
