Original tutorial written by Murdoc @ qwdrama.comFirst of all you need ezQuake to pull this off >> nQuakeXvid codec >> WindowsSettings: demo_capture_codec "xvid" demo_capture_dir "movies" demo_capture_fps "25" demo_capture_mp3 "0" bind z "demo_capture start 30 name.avi" bind x "demo_capture stop" Now you can start playing the demo and demo_jump to the right time. Press the button “z” and it will record for 30 seconds. If you want it to stop sooner just press “x”. The avi is located in \nQuake\Movies\. if you get tabbed out to windows, its because of the xvid settings. We can fix this by following these 2 steps: * Go to “start”, click “run” copy + paste this line below C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe xvidvfw.dll,Configure * Then click “other options” and unclick the “display encoding status” (located at the bottom)

I'll just add that software like VirtualDub is good for further processing. It's not fancy editing software but it's free and I use it for things such as trimming out undesired frames and splitting videos into pieces for posting to YouTube.

hehe I'm really keen to try out my movie skills by making one of my own ones think I'm too lazy and unskilled to pull it off though, but I have already started gathering frags

I am not using fraps though.
hfyu totally didn't work for me.
xvid seems to be the way to go, but can't find the best settings yet.
I lose to much quality with the default settings.
I am converting the avi over to mp4 format.

demo_capture_fps "25" Such low fps doesn't do QW justice IMO. 30 is absolute minimum, preferably 50/60. Even if most of your source is going to be ~30 fps MVDs, the interpolation is better than nothing.

Is there a way to record a full demo, not just a certain segment of time?

How do you convert demos to movies using darkplaces netquake client? Do you use the cl_capturevideo command? When I set this value to "1" quake crashes... :/ Thanks for help.
When I'm using commands from 1st pov for ezquake during playback I have extremely low framerate. Can someone describe how to do it on contemporary machines?
