Well reaction time isnt random. It's a skill and it makes 100m olympic final a lot more interesting.
We could even implement the same rules, false start if someone reacts faster than 0.1secs after the shot (need to be shorter in qw...). In multiplayer: 1st false start = warning, 2nd = disqualification.

Hmm nail-climb like
plasma-climb
in Q3 (with SNG maybe), would be a great feature but we need good maps ala
Defrag
for it.

Ill all for the 3-2-1 start, but I'd rather not see a random start sequence. There are so many other factors that come into play to separate a good from a bad one, and I for one wouldn't want a seemingly perfect run to be ruined by a bad start. I think it's hard to focus on getting that great start after having raced for 45mins. You simply lose focus, I know I do.

Ye, this is prolly best, as it would work for both ghost/transparent/invisible multi-player races and solo world record attempts.
But I'm sure the "on your marks, get set.. then random bang" would be good for push-slide mode. This mode would also not have as much focus on time-attack, as it would be about winning the race.

There are some good maps already by Zalon, his mod has nail climbing too.

Although, wouldn't the random time be especially important in time-attack, and not so much in push-slide mode? Could make a pro mode for competitions that would do this random factor, and a practice mode that will have a constant countdown.

No, in time-attack mode you just race against yourself, and every 1/100 of a second is important so no random starts. In "push-slide" the main objective is to be the first to cross the finish line, not so much to break the world record.

Ok, any other opinions on this?

I agree with tGM on this issue. Perhaps 3-2-1-go is best for all kind of modes, as people would be familiar with it and wouldnt have to learn 10 different modes.

I disagree with the 3 2 1 go.
I like DeFrag in the respect that once you cross a line it starts timing.
Of course when you RACE you need a 3 2 1.
But for demos and stuff........line crossing.
