Hi.
Perhaps some of you have noticed that there is a topbar added to some QW sites around (qwdrama, QuakeWorld GFX, QW Schedule, Goldrush, ezQuake, NQR). The idea behind it is to simply connect the sites better and keep users within our beloved "qw network".
I haven't really got any comments on it except from admins, so I'd like to ask what you guys think about it.
Good or bad? Suggestions for improvements? Change of URLs? Add/Remove sites?
etc..

you should add qw.nu on the first spot since its the biggest and easiest community site for rookies/oldies

I saw it now and think it looks nice!
The only problem is that topbars allow only a few number of links.
I prefer to use a link block, like you can see at www.quakeone.com and www.quakebrasil.com. https://tinyurl.com/qwbrasil - QuakeFiles

I didnt saw it before, its great! great job, keep it updated with running leagues. add it to all "qw network" sites. great idea! just needs a bit tunning imo. other than that, its perfect as it is! never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.

Would it be possible to add "alerts" for qw schedule(d) games? I never check that site and I avoid IRC thus I always miss them. Oh, and please add it to these forums.

Well yes, but I want to keep it simple, you can see upcoming games on Goldrush or at the "network panel" at qwdrama.com. I never check that site and I avoid IRC thus I always miss them. Well, that's your problem :>

is it a bug? when im located at qw.nu, the qw.nu button at the top bar isnt highlighted. the same Doesnt happen with the other network sites (the site you're in has its button highlighted on top bar) I think i repeated myself. oh well edit: you could add a button linking to irc:// quakenet, #qwrookie maybe or #quakeworld never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.

I guess it's because you are not using "www" in front of "quakeworld.nu".

nope i use quakeworld.nu, same thing. happens with forum too

you got me there. you're right. what about the link to irc ? maybe it could link to a html page here on qw.nu with a little text about irc and its importance for the qw community. Ofc this is aimed for newbies - and since qw.nu is a world-wide qw site nowadays (well, in the "absence" of besmella plus n and s american sites, yes i think its a global) it could contain info about the 3 irc servers used in world-wide quakeworld. Because newbies can come from anywhere about the leagues buttons (the 4 buttons on the right). NQR is idle right now, so replace that one with the ztndm3 showdown? keeping the bar updated is essencial imo edit: or the kenya tournys never argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.

IMHO, the IRC link is a good idea but lots of younger people have no idea how to connect to irc from m$ messenger ;-) I think it would be good if qw.nu used something like http://www.mibbit.com/ so that new players can (very) easily get on to #qwrookie

i just checked, you can use www.mibbit.com to connect to #qwrookie on irc.quakenet.org. good to keep this in mind if you want to help a rookie to get on to irc.

the problem with www.mibbit.com is that it connects everytime to the irc with the same ip. If the number of connections from a ip exceeds 5, you'll get automatically g-lined. quakenet only allows 5 connections from the same ip: This means that you have connected too many clients from the host you are currently connecting from. On QuakeNet, 5 clones are allowed from each host before the host is automatically G-Lined. Mibbit is good to connect to irc if you're in a private network that has the irc ports blocked and you cant connect directly from your pc to irc. If you connect from your place, a regular cgi-irc pluging will do the trick, because it uses your own ip to connect to irc on a webpage, and quakenet rules have nothing to say on that. an example of cgi-irc applyed to quakenet: HEREcourtesy of the sensible soccer communitynever argue with an idiot. they'll bring you back to their level and then beat you with experience.

If it is something that qw.nu wants, you could just ask mibbit/quakenet to sort it out: http://wiki.mibbit.com/index.php/Enable_Mibbit_on_Your_IRC_Server
