I managed to get mine to 500hz by replacing the usbport.sys with a sp2 install then patching with USB Mouserate Switcher if you need the usbport.sys let me know

quakeworld works fine in vista.
But geting 1000hz can be more complicated, depending on what vista version and mouse drivers you use.
When i set pollingrate to 1000 hz, mouserate application usualy measures the rate to something between 600-800.

Did you read the link? It's worked for everyone I know who has SP3. Read the link carefully because it explains in quotes how a long and tedious task doesn't work--do not confuse this with the solution they are offering.

Same here bro.. and i've tried almost 3 different motherboards/cpus @ two different mice ( old ms 3.0 and brand new diamondback 3g ) all of these combinations won't go on near to stable 1000hz.
I don't understand why it couldn't get a stable 900-1000hz... my actual config is the following:

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory:
Dual-Channel Kingston 2GB DDR2 800mhz

You don't need 1000hz, 500 is fine and you won't see a difference.
