I need to buy a new mobile as my Sonyericsson K750 is starting to act weird. Do you guys have any recommendations on which new model to check out? I haven't given much thought to what features I'm looking for, but some new mid-/high-end phone with today's standard stuff i guess. www.facebook.com/QuakeWorld

My recommendation:
Forget all high tech non-sense and get the simplest phone available. I got one for many years now (siemens a52) and it still works as it was meant to work.

This is exactly what I've talked about before: we become too focussed on all that technology. You could ask yourself what would happen if if someone would take your gadgets away from you. I mean, do you control your technology or does technology control you?

what's wrong with technology? technology is a tool, and tools are extensions of our memetic evolution. being a caveman is overrated, geico commercials notwithstanding

I would recommend any model with good WiFi internet capabilities and proper browser, like top Nokia models, iPhone, HTC, Samsung Omnia. Ability to surf web on the go is really helpful at work, university etc. Forget cheap low-tech phones with Opera mobile, it's more toy than tool.

Get one with a real keyboard, WiFi and 3G. I have Nokia N95 8GB ATM and really miss the keyboard from my old communicator. Unless you are 12 n wrt lk ths ;-) Maddox did a good review of the iPhone: http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=iphone

Typing on iPhone is not bad, actually much better than on traditional 1 to 0 keypad, and slightly better than on touchscreens without multitouch technology. But i agree that if you have some mails to send it's not the best option around, even totally overrated blackberry is better. Physical keyboard is reason why my next phone would be G1.

If you want a smartphone\featurephone, I'd recommend reading reviews about recent models of touchscreen phones (that way you'll get an intuitive way of controlling it and a big screen). Different features suit different people, but generally, if you care about apps\etc, I'd go for an iPhone, because it's wildly popular and thus, has apps for everything you need. I wouldn't recommend any phone with symbian\windows mobile, but I'm not going to go into flame wars here, so if you're interested just check on the web what's good and bad about them.

I picked up a Nokia 5800 a while back after looking at the iPhone. I wasn't sure how long I'd be in the UK at the time so going on a contract wasn't acceptable, nor was having a phone locked to one carrier. Reasons for the 5800: - cheaper than iPhone on PAYG (£200-250 outright instead of £400) - not locked to any one carrier - o2 said they wouldn't unlock even if I moved back to Australia - not subject to Apple's over controlling bullshit - can run more than one app at once - better battery life than iphone - does pretty much everything the iphone does
I'm generally pretty happy with it except that it could do with qwerty-predictive text, typing is a bit of a pain in the arse at times. Multitouch would be nice too.

Nokia 7210 Supernova. Best by all things. Slim, look, photo, songs and price all is best as performance.
