As many of you may have expected, and may even have felt its consquences ( resulting in a 50:0 loss), mingping has a major issue.
To see and feel the issue do the following:
- Go to a server of your choice preferable to one where you have a good ping.
- Set cl_nopred to 1, and walk around. If your connect is stable it should be perfectly smooth, visualy. The feeling itself could be different from what you are used to.
- Now look up ur ping in the scoreboard, i will take 25 as an example, and set cmd minping (your ping + 2), with my 25 ms example it would be cmd minping 27.
- Now walk around and see the difference, if you cant dont blame me . What you should see is stuttering in your movement, wich is disguised by using prediction.
The higher you set minping the more severe the stuttering will get.
So what does this mean in games ?
Take for example player1 - 13ms, player2 - 52.
player2 will be bitching about ping difference etc, you know the ushual whine.
Now player 2 will set minping to 49, he still wants some advantage doesnt he, but ! what he doesnt know is that minping will only affect him. Thereby giving an, imho not insignificant, advantage to player2. He might have the higher real ping, but he does not have the stuttering.
There for, if someone wants to play you with minping, make shure he feels it too :p.
