So, as I was so extremely amazed by the DreamHack summer finals between LocKtar and Nabbe in the dreamarena extreme, I figured it would be lovely to see it again... ... but that was impossible as it was not saved anywhere! The whole stream was lost and I was devastated QQ So, for DreamHack Winter, I'd like to record the stream of the final game in DreamArena Extreme. My question to you is; how do I do that? I'd like to have a way of recording the stream at the same quality as it is streamed in, so no quality is lost whatsoever from the stream. To be able to watch it exactly as it was streamed. Which programs do I need/use? Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance, Andeh

use VLC, the most powerful video player that can make magic.

I guess it depends on the format that is being streamed. Usually mplayer does a good job at that. Just make "mplayer <url> -dumpstream" and it should write the stream data to disk. There might be several ways how to go from here to make this dump to normal video file for playback.

record it loss-less, and encode with x264 with the settings CRF -19. here's a short turtorial: http://rob.opendot.cl/index.php/useful-stuff/ffmpeg-x264-encoding-guide/

I'm going to wait for Zalon to reply, but just gonna say that because something seems lost it doesn't mean it is. Also recording the stream doesn't sound like a good idea when you could instead replicate it in higher quality by grabbing the commentary alone and then make an identical (or actually better) recording from demos at a much higher quality.

zapp, i dont feel the same feeling e.g watching a demo and playing a .mp3 in the background with the commentary.
I'm sure you saw the dh final and the shots with cameras here and there and the entire concept made the feeling, not the quality of the stream of the game itself
If I had watched the DH summer final in qtv with the commentary in the background it wouldn't be close to the same

Zalon do you know anything about whether the stream was recorded somewhere?
I saw many records of the CS games etc on youtube and so on, but I've searched alot for the quakeworld finals but could never find them, even sent an e-mail to the Dreamhack crew but they wouldn't respond.
And I've read through the tutorials and to be honest I don't really understand shit lol

Andeh I didnt say you should play a demo and have an mp3 in the background, what I said was you can recreate almost the complete live stream using only the audio and demos. That is record the demo and than mux them into an mkv (avi and mp4 is shit, get that!, ok? SHIT!!)
I'll see if I got any contacts who can help me find out if the stream is stored somewhere.

DreamHack recorded it, but they rarely release that shit. I only have audio.

Why wont they release it? Anyone know of a way to contact them and have them release it somehow?

I recorded the show while it was live and I made Justin.tv clips of the stream after it ended. If you've missed it, the links are in the bottom of this news item.

I really love you for recording that Zalon, but this year Dreamhack actually did a good job themselves too http://www.justin.tv/dreamarena

tr00 Rio, except that the videos are really really random.. e.g the Quake Live Grand Final is some CS:S game, and so on. They seem to have messed it up alot xD
