the belt from the original player model viewed from behind has two orange/browny stripes on it.. i think you missed those also the ranger should be smiling in a very sadistic way belt things outlined with red:

I think the skin has to be completely scrapped (not sure if you're using a temporary one or if you are planning on making it faithful). Maybe the skin from the hud that's floating around could be used?

looks a bit better, but the rest of the skin looks out of place. his gun looks a bit plastic and his armor looks like wax. the details are there but the colors and textures seem to be wrong (constructive criticism)

I'm with up2 here, the armor looks good but the shoulderpads are too waxy. the gun looks plastic yes(don't know how to change this : P) otherwise it's a real nice facelift for quake

when i said i drew him a sean connery face i meant that literally he even had the beard for a while. and yeah it is a temp skin that i spent too much time jacking with and have been slacking lately trying to keep myself motivated so i can finish. http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=4/11418495863.png&s=x402 start of a face based on original skin still trying to figure out the mouth based on the 3 lines of pixels.

Wow, is all I can say! He has Dag muscles. I also like the fact that his eyes are so dark. He should have a toothpick between his teeth and some hair on his arms aswell as some popping out of his chest armor, and a bigger crotch. That should do the trick.

Blood, dirt and texture/skin tweaking should be pretty low down the order of priorities. Once this is finished it'll be pretty simple to produce some amazingly detailed skins. The model itself is the part that needs the most work to get it to a point where his posture and animations are credible. It's already quite good. Just needs to match the original model a little more closely in certain areas, such as idle motion. This is far and away the best Quake player model update ever produced. It's _definitely_ something worth getting excited about. Every other effort up to this point has looked either odd or just not in keeping with the character of the game. I know mOO's skin will be excellent once finalised and also anticipate people will be produce some cracking alternative ones too

indeed, the model is just amazing, but the textures are still too clean and shiny but that's just minor tweaking after animation and all other tweaking is done

how about making the helmet go down in the middle of the face a bit? and also make the helmet a bit thicker, it looks like an aluminum hat as it is right now (it's totally flat on top of the head too?) like this:
