<Randy^> what does it look like?
<Cheapy> imagine quakeguy.... skinneir and much more constipated

<LordHavoc> Randy^: http://www.quaddicted.com/contribute/imageupload/images/m00_md3playermodel1.jpg
<Spirit> i like it
<Spirit> it's the best remodel so fa
<Spirit> r
<Spirit> of the quakeguy
<Asaki> It might look decent when he finishes it.
<Asaki> Still got a lot of work to go, though.
<LordHavoc> Spirit: I agree it's the best so far, but it also needs more work
<Spirit> yeah
<Spirit> so you guys should tell him your thoughts
<Asaki> It looks like he hasn't even skinned the gloves yet.
<Spirit> or post them here and i'll post them at qw.nu
<Asaki> It also suffers from the same problems as every single other Quake remake ever: not gritty and dirty enough.
<LordHavoc> Spirit: and I can't even figure out what he had in mind with the pants/shirt textures, they're greyscale alpha tga (a format I have never seen in my life, and it's not even defined in the targa spec), and for some reason the base skin has the pants/shirt pixels in it as well (that does NOT work)
<LordHavoc> Asaki: the skin is too bright too, I had to manipulate the brightness levels a lot in my DP compatible version
<Spirit> heh
<LordHavoc> Asaki: well I should say, the base skin is too bright, the pants/shirt are too dark
<Asaki> Heh.
<LordHavoc> Asaki: (off by 2x on each!)
<Asaki> The mirroring job isn't too bad, but I can really notice the seam on the pants and the helmet.
<Asaki> There's something...off about the boots...not sure what...but I guess they were always kinda funky to begin with.
<Asaki> And I hope he makes the hands look less like mittens when he finishes them
<Asaki> I think that's all I got.
<Asaki> "Not gritty enough" being the most immediate thing I notice. It's like when you compare the player skin in QTest to the final version.
<Asaki> But I guess it's not easy to get that honest dirty look just right.
<Asaki> Q3 sure as heck couldn't do it
... (non related)
<Asaki> Spirit: ^ Paste away
<Spirit> heh, ok

He should have studs or spikes on his gloves to throw random killing punches

i'm not really sure what LordHavoc means they were saved in photoshop and there is only one channel in them no alpha. photoshop won't even let you save alpha in a grayscale tga. also i know you don't need the pixels in the base skin i just liked how it looked combined at the time and it does work you can even see it does in game even if it isn't the intended way to be used.

i think i fixed a lot of the boxing glove look which came from my complete lack of ability to animate. when the hand turned too far the wrist collapsed and the hand looked large in relation. will probably keep it mitten like because i'm really not ready to animate a full hand and to save on the tri count.

bought hexagon 2 a couple days ago since they have a special on the price ($30 for platinum membership and $2 for hex2) right now so i have been messing aorund with that a bit. pretty buggy but if it gets fixed up seems like it will be nice. http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=5/12413192171.jpg&s=f5

that is the latest i am letting it sit for a bit so it will be easier to see some problems when i pick it back up.. probably going to redo the front of the helmet because i don't like how sharp it is.

started some monsters for darkplaces as well..

i know the dog in game is a rottweiler but i wanted to make a doberman. this is the hi-poly i'm working on which will be used to make the normal map for the low-poly model.

top left is hi-poly fish and the rest are in game shots.

the fish is nice, the dog needs more weight on it! dobermann is ok but it has got to be more scary, can't be so skinny

I did know, but the dog from quake is not. I said a dobermann is ok but it needs some muscles or some mad texture to make it look CrAzY

Yep.

That dog is more like a whippet.

When doing the dog you should take a peek of their bonestruckture:
http://www.dobermann.sk/images/kostra.jpg
That's not a good picture, but gives some guidelines.

Anyway, I'd do some dobermann research and then redraw the dog, you could draw it on a picture, or take pictures of some dobermann. Some of them are shortlegged though..

And I'd do it edgy, to give it the razorsharp feeling.

i think you are way overestimating how thin it actually is probably due to the bad lighting on the underside. have been using a lot of reference.. i would have some trouble getting that far just off the top of my head. the muscles though i have pieced together based on whatever i could find doberman or adapted from other dogs. hard to find good photos of doberman muscles since they are black. i'm also going for a kind of ratty not so well fed look which is why the spine and ribs are slightly visible. still needs teeth and a snarl which is probably the biggest thing making it look too friendly.

here's a bit more reference for this discussion

i don't care how the models looks like, only that it feels like it belongs to quake, in other words it should have that special satanic/gothic/dirty/bloody quake feel to it

yes from that screenshot by Ruohis I would have to say that, the skinnier your dog gets, the more blood and sharp teeth it has to have

"Nothing!"
"Shit man, that smells..."

OR AM I THE ONLY ONE THINKING THESE THINGS, WATCHING THAT GUY'S FACIAL EXPRESSION?

amazing work
i just noticed the idle stance is odd looking:
http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/4369/playercompare6cr.th.jpg

i checked the regular quake model and its because this new guys knees dont bend, the regular quake guy has way more bent knees, so it looks more natural. new guy looks stiff as a board, and also his feet look small/thin they could be all around bigger.
amazing work tho.

Also his back is 2 straight if you compare it to the orginal model when it goes to idle mode.

When the original model is in idle mode, he turns his back a little. The new model just holds his back straight.

And i agree that the knees should bent a bit more

Perhaps a longer "limb" would do the trick for you.

All I can think of is that he looks sort of skinny, his chest should be wider. Idle-mode I really don't care since "IDLERS WILL BE SHOT!"
