Hi all Quakers throughout the world! After a long time of very few activity the quakeworld community in Brazil is rising and shinning slowly. A small group of old quakeworld friends gather round and decided to recall the good times that really never go away. And the thing is growing. Unfortunatelly we are still pretty modest and can't even compare to the huge European's community but one thing we do share: the love for QuakeWorld! If you can make something go faster than light we might get lan-pings sweden<->brazil, but until that happens it's not much to do ;-) On topic: Nice to hear

If you can make something go faster than light we might get lan-pings sweden<->brazil, but until that happens it's not much to do ;-) On topic: Nice to hear Actually the light speed can ride seven times around the world in a blink of eyes. I think the limits are still in the routes and routers softwares. diameter of equator is 40000 km. It takes around 130ms for light to go around

diameter of equator is 40000 km. It takes around 130ms for light to go around You mean the circumference, not the diameter. Otherwise it checks out -- around 130ms for light to travel 40000 km, which is one trip around earth.

I haven't checked the calculations, but it seems reasonable when speaking of vacuum. Light doesn't travel as fast in glass (nor air) as in vacuum, so add that to the problem list too

Someone should set up a neutrino emitter in Europe and a detector (invent one first!) in South America. Neutrinos can easily go through the Earth's internals, and if you send them at near light speed you get a 1.5 times advantage in latency compared to a cable on the surface!

Well the distance between Brazil and Germany is about 10.709km. Simple calculations concludes that the light spend around 35ms to travel through.
