Come the summer months each year there is normally a big exodus from the quakeworld servers. As the players head for the beaches and foreign shores to get some sun and a break from the radiation emitting from their computer screens, there are just a handful of quakers left to man the ship.
This summer however, there was a bit of change to the normal.
Far from there being just a handful of mixes and duels late into the night, there has been a bit of a stirring and a buzz about the place.

The Quakeworld community awoke from its slumber and abandoned its summer hibernation. In fact the quake world community has taken great strides forward in rejuvenating the scene this summer. We've seen the inaugural
Summer Jam tourney , QuakeWorld featuring in the Quad Damage tournament in
QuakeCon and most importantly the highly successful
Ignition Duel tourney for Rookie players.
This tourney has already started to breath some life in to the game with some new and old players being introduced into the game.
Following on from
sassa's great work,
Itsinen is now working on keeping the continuity going by organizing a new 4x4 TDM Rookie league for the winter months.
However this depends on the entire community spreading the word. There are many rookies out there playing FFA and duels on servers across Europe and in the States.
Many are unaware of the efforts going on to recruit these players on to teams.
Many do not even use irc, so It is essential for the continued growth of the game that we get them involved and encourage them to express their interested on the sign up sheet located here
4x4 TDM Rookie League Remember the success of this league is vital for the injection of new players to the Quakeworld scene for the continued survival of the game. So spread the word and lets get as many sign ups as possible.
