This really sucks, blinking fucking crap. Seriously, what's the point of having a vibrating old window from Windows 98, on an apparent white background so you can clearly see it's just an image, having the error symbol on it and saying I'm the 999.999 visitor (at all times yeh)!? Total crap is the new trademark for this site now?

it's a good idea with banners, some banners even make a site look more cool and professional.
But why in the name of god take the worst possible banners that exists on internet I fucking hate those... it just makes the site look... ugly.. and anoying and who exactly will click them on this site?
if you absolutely cant find any other banners, sure I won't whine if it gives some money.
But isn't there like some sort of clean and good looking gaming banners, with commercial for gaming gear or whatever that would be nicer and maybe even people would click those

They are not on the forums .. yet, but as you can see, there's room for them. About the banners, I too find these ads way too in-your-face. I've whitelisted the page for now, but we'll see. I am not sure I can't stand these ads much longer.

i never look at the page in one spot long enuff to care about the banner.

i clicked on one and it took me to basically a celebrity sex site, do we want celebrity sex associated with quake? some will joke that its cool but really its not good for the site.

Google banners only pays well if they get clicked, these pay just for impressions, but if the google banners are so much better that you're all gonna click on em , i guess we could do that.

I don't even see space for a discussion here. The banners are neither placed to annoy users, nor so the qw.nu team can drive around in a Porsche and have wild parties with a cocaine buffet. The banners might be ugly as fuck (and I agree, they really are), but in the end they are merely placed to benefit the scene.
Webspace and servers, for example, are not a free government service but the product of individual profitless investment. Sure it all looks nicer without the banner(s), but if it helps to keep servers & websites up - gah - what's the problem?
As for the 999.999th visitor thing: Non-nerdy housewives might be tricked into signing up with some scam lottery site, but I have serious doubts that any of the qw players are gonna be lured into something like this.
Also, I am wondering why on earth some of you put it like you spend several hours every day exploring the front page of this site. It's not like you have to stare at the banner for ages.

Well I have to say that I feel kinda robbed. Having put three times the amount of money into the server donation than what I originally planned just to see this around the corner :/ I haven't been around that much for a week+, but couldn't you just have tried to rally new donaters again and after that see what's what?

Ads look like shit, I don't really mind it that much myself, but it does put me off directing ppl to qw.nu, because the first impression is trashy :/

Generally I like googleads on pages that I want to support and actually feature ads that I might be interested in, but I do understand that impressions are so much easier.

Thats fine, i cant decide if you block the banners or not, that is up to you, but there is no need to encourage others to do so. The more who blocks the banners the less we get paid for having them, and it just means that there is less money for the community.

And we just changed the banner system, and when it's fully updated, there should be no more blinking banners, right now i have a "TimetoTalk.org anti-drug campaign" banner.

If you don't want to support the site by having a banner show up on the top of the page, then feel free not to visit at all?
