SMO worked as a ladder with an ELO-based ranking system, so the skill differense between the players would determine the ladder points won and lost after the match. A top player winning over a bottom player would hardly effect the ratings, the reverse result would give a huge boost to the poorly rated player and vice versa.
When Sammael shut down SMO, he put out a hall of fame, shown below, titled: «These are the people who have ruled the SMO through history.»
