AfterQuake is a Quake package, similar to QuakeWorld's nQuake, ClassicQ, or even Quake's Epsilon Mod. It was launched at the QuakeExpo 2016 (QEXPO2016) event. Link to announcement.

AfterQuake is a combination of the FTE engine (source port or client) and community-made content packages. It supports both Quake (singleplayer) and QuakeWorld (multiplayer)

Installation

Download the zip file (link below) and extract to an empty folder (e.g. c:\afterQuake). Then copy from your Quake directory the following files:

  • id1/pak0.pak
  • id1/pak1.pak

to the corresponding folder in your afterQuake folder.

You can now execute the fte executable. On the first run you will chose from the menu whatever extra packages you want to download.

Contents

AfterQuake package is a zip file which contains the bare minimum required to get AfterQuake running. Everything else needed is downloaded automatically in the first run (except copywrite content, such as pak1.pak), and if you want extras, you can download them from the client as well.

And there are tons of extras: redesigned main menu, amazing particle configs (fully editable),

When you first start, you will be presented with the downloads menu. If you want the bare minimum, you can just disable updates and close the menu if you wish. However, if you want the standard AfterQuake content, then go ahead and hit apply. Once the downloads finish, you're ready to play! You can also select the 'AfterQuake - Full' package, if you want to use the higher-quality presets. Most packages can be enabled or disabled on the fly without needing to redownload. The downloads menu can be accessed later via the menus, or simply via the menu_downloads console command.

Single Player

For singleplayer, you can use the QuakeInjector plugin to download a plethora of singleplayer maps and mods hosted by quaddicted. Note that you will need the full version of quake for this to work properly. (You may wish to disable the ezhud plugin, and possibly switch graphics presets away from the deathmatch-focused one).

Multi Player

For deathmatch, you can find a plethora of public servers inside the built-in server browser. Both NQ and QW servers will be listed.

QuakeTV and observing

You can spectate ongoing internet games using AfterQuake as you use your regular Quake client. For QuakeWorld you can use QuakeTV to connect to servers.
