Messy Base (messy) is an incredibly old school duel map that even pre-dates Aerowalk and Blood Run. It was created by Adriano 'Escher' Lorenzini in 1997. He also created the well known FFA classics Ultra Violence (Ultrav) and De Bello Quakero (debello).

Messy Base was a popular duel map in the late 90's in Australia, in particular among players of the clan Sons of Quad (SoQ).

The texture work and architectural design are surprisingly original (and remain so today), especially for using the base texture set. Layout spans across two main atriums and some smaller connecting tunnels. Great diversity in terrain across the play field, as well as decent vertical movement ensures an excellent match time and time again.

Strategy & Tactics

on your screen. Mmmmm....well......anyway... The best strategy is to change your strategy as often as possibile IMHO (sorry for the pun)......indeed as soon as your enemy is able to foresee your moves you're dead meat. Finally, take advantage of the peculiarity of each and every weapon......BTW, on this map the GL gives its best! I strongly suggest you to use the so-called "Night Watchman's Tactic", that is, walk around and toss a quick grenade into the first hole you find on your way then move along to next hole. Don't stop yourself until you can hear someone screaming and yelling. For getting the most out of this tactic, while you're carefully checking through holes, you should whistle a tune. My buddy Tazz
