FAQ
- What resolution should I use?
See Smooth Quake. If you own a tft screen, see TFT. If it's widescreen (16:9 or 16:10), read the Widescreen Guide. If you own a crt screen it depends on your screen. Higher refresh rates result in a smoother gameplay. You MUST tweak the refresh rate if you own a CRT screen. This is one of those things you got to test yourself. Use Refresh force to tweak your screen Hz if you're not comfortable with the nvidia drivers. Common resolutions/refresh rates are 640*480@160hz, 800*600@120hz, 1024*768@100hz.
Hints
- Timedemo fps
Timedemo is a way to benchmark your pc on quake series games. you can use any demo you want. At the end of the demo, the average fps you have will be displayed. "fps" is a small demo in which many players are firing and it is very demanding, making it the standard demo for testing fps in qw. This was first introduced by Def in Def Quakeworld Package. It's recommended to have at least 77 fps in "timedemo fps".
To run it, type timedemo fps
in the quakeworld console. If you don't have it, you can always use quake's default demos: demo1-3. timedemo demo1
for example.
