An initiative started in order to promote more activity in the Quakeworld scene. This league is based on the traditional captains model where top players will take turns picking players from the pool until their team is formed. These teams will then compete against each other.

The first season of the Quakeworld Draft League started in march 2012. After receiving positive feedback and request for more teams in the next season, this was accommodated by adding a second division in the second season (to be picked by the captains from division 1).
