Brazilian Scene
Enjoying my vacation, I was surprised, just arrived tonight from new year's celebration, and opened my quake. I've joined our servers and noticed a lot of people playing and have fun like the old days... with a nice number of spectators.
linking to that, I was googling the br qw-scene and found 2 websites that you guys can check and see what is going on.
for now, only portuguese, but i'll try to contact the webmasters and ask them to translate it!
http://www.quakebrasil.com.br/
http://www.quakeworld.com.br/
(at least you can notice the websites are more useful than beautiful)
if you know something about portuguese, you can see that the content is a mashup of the mainly news from the websites around the scene on the world.

considering what I saw tonight I'm thinking about try to organize some tourney or even a lan (who knows), just to make it more interesting.

and since we are the only country (i think) that is playing qw in south america nowadays, would be nice if you guys get in our servers sometimes, to spec or even to play, i know it's hard because of the bad pings, but we can keep
a good duel with 150ms... it's not lg-able but playable and would help us survive, believe me.

that's all for now, have a nice 2009 guys

I dont understand why the brazilian servers dont have QTV and updated mvdsv+ktx!!!!

I hope you can see the great success with qtv in europe
http://qtv.quakeworld.nu it should be implanted on all servers around the world.

I just saw this thread in their forum:
http://forum.quakeworld.com.br/viewtopic.php?id=27

Does this mean they don't use IRC as much as we do in Europe? I think the Australian community isn't very frequent IRC users either, which is a shame. I think IRC plays a very important role when new players are starting to play, both in getting to know players as well as when getting help.

I tried to play on a br server before, but 400 ping was to much :/

Unfortunately no europeans have 150 ping in brazil.. I ping about 300, which aint so easy to play with.. you never know though, I might show up for a game or two If I managed to top frag in a 2on2 in australia with 350 ping, then 300 should'nt be a problem

What does brazilians ping in the US? There should be some servers where both brazilians and europeans have 150 ms I think? Could be fun? Tell me if you're up for a duel!

actually I found one server that I ping a bit better to: tf.speednetrj.com:27500.. I have 240 ms there, but unfortunately it's a tf server

Hi!! I've been "Quake sober" since 8 years ago..and I'm back from 3 months ago till now.
That time we had (I guess) the same amount of Sweden players..
At that time a few people was starting to get fast internet connections and I think this ran out many Quakers.
About 85% of Quakers were HPB(High ping Bastard) at that time 1999/2000 and the fights started to be unfair with the LPB,that time many people were migrating from Normal Quake to Quake World too..
A few amount of Quaker continued to play after this, so many good players at that time stopped playing.
Then Counter Strike came and you know what happened..
What I'm trying to say is that here now we can count with ONE hand how many Brazilian Quaker are in an AVERAGE LEVEL comparing to Sweden or Finish player..
This is sad..Brazillian Quake stopped in 2001/2003..here..the rest is bullshit..
The guys who could come back (23 years old average) do not have much time nowadays..(work ,study) to become a good player..so the only funny thing to do is to enter on a FFA match and remember the old good times.
Watch the div0 players too !

what about qtv on .br servers?
2009-01-08, 04:26
sassa, it's not so easy... the admins are lazy
2009-01-08, 04:27
thanks, dEus... i just finished another one

about qtv, the admins have restrictions to open new ports. its useless to say that qtv actually uses less bw, they prefer to set maxspectators 20 on the same port. Their main problem is bandwidth, they are very rigid about that, admins can't do nothing until they understand the benefits of qtv

In fact, I stopped to play NQ in 2001 and QW in 2003, as #8 said, but mainly due my ping cuz I confess I'm tired of being a HPB =C
