Gaz

Gaz is a British QW player, admin and commentator.

Gaz started playing NetQuake and then QW in 1999. He got in touch with the rather rubbish "Spawn of Satan" (SoS) clan through alt.games.quake and started playing something that could be described as 4on4 under the name ><(((('>. Around this time, he also started using IRC, and had to go by the name Gazfish or fishy. As a result, many people simply called him 'gaz' and this name eventually led to him adopting the nick in-game as well. SoS' leader, SinneR, left the clan to join Quake's 7 (Q7) and Gaz took over the mantle. With a huge but inactive roster, Gaz agreed to merge the clan with another low division clan, DRS, and the team was renamed as Teknojihad (TEK).

Gaz got fed up with inactivity in that clan as well though, and joined The Shadow Warriors (TSW) in late 1999/early 2000. He played on 56k connection throughout his time with TSW, but enjoyed successful seasons in the Wireplay Deathmatch League 9 & 10, with TSW winning division 6 twice, and the UKCL division 6 once as well. TSW rose up the divisions over the next few seasons, eventually playing in Division 1 of the UKCL. By this time, Gaz was at university without an internet connection, and so his contribution was marginal at best! When Gaz did get an internet connection, he turned his attentions to CounterStrike for a few years.

Gaz returned to QW as an LPB for the first time with Funky International Pirate Superstars (FIPS), a clan made-up of former members of UK Clans StrikeForce, Kamikaze Telefraggers and TSW. He played 2 seasons of NQR with FIPS, before the clan folded in the summer of 2004. gaz then joined Osams, and played with them during NQR seasons 7, 8 and 9, plus EQL seasons 1, 2 and 3.

He gained fame within the QW community for his work as an NQR admin, and as a TeamSpeak commentator with the Quakeworld.nu team. He commentated on the NQR6, 7, 8 and 9 finals, and produced his best commentary when working alongside fellow-Brit HangTime, and Osams teammate Xerial. gaz and Xerial also commentated on the QHLAN finals in January 2005, where they were both attendees.

gaz retired from QW after EQL3, and played his last game in May 2006. He made a comeback in late 2009, playing with Osams in EQL season 10 division 3.
