Introduction

Heroes was a northern European QW TDM 4ON4 league which ran for two seasons with participants from the Nordic counties.

Unlike the North-European Clan League (NECL) that was also running at the time, Heroes only included the maps DM3, DM2 and E1M2. These maps would then go on to be called The Big Three (TB3) and the maps you needed to conquer to earn reputation.

Trivia

1999-02-17 - (Finland Dedi had this to say about their (Finland Clan Z's) game against Medieval Spawns:

"Today was the time for the most expected match in Heroes2, MvS vs. Z. Somehow the game didn't quite live up to our expectations..:/ We started dm2 in finnish server where we had usual great ping. Jayz from Mvs had lagbursts and that certainly effects team's efforts. Xavier and ZodiaX fought bravely and Jayz and Jargoon took a cup of coffee or something. So no surpise dm2 ended in our favour. Well..dm3 in swedish server. MvS had all the chances of turning the fight into 1-1 and force round 3 in neutral server(prolly norway). I guess they tried in the 1st 7-9 minutes and after that some of them again just quitted. Allthough this was convincing victory for us one must really wonder..Is this the behaviour of a good and well organised clan? Namechanging, idling in a match etc. Once you type that "ready" in the console doesn't that mean that you surely are ready to fight? In my books this fight was a disgrace and should have never been fought. You can check out the demosection for demos from this "fight". Make up your own mind from those. :("

1999-02-27 - (Finland Clan Z had this to say about Heroes Season 2:

The second season of the HEROES league has ended. Heroes is clearly the best scandinavian league ever. It includes the best teams, best maps and the best rules. We won it sovereignily with no losses at all. In the whole season we lost only 2 maps, congrats GLX and Crew for beating us on dm2 and dm3, respectively. Here's the final standings:

Editors note: See table.

As you see, all clans couldn't play all the games they were supposed to. But whatever the results would have been, top three would be the same. This league seems to have VERY bright future, and we are already looking forward next season. There's some rumours about the next league and cheating. Crew and MVS are going to give up altered models and fullbright-skins (mostly cause Quake-SM requires that ;)). Z will not be "hardline" clan on this question: most of us have been using unmodified models and normal skins (enemys have base skin instead of fb) for a while. I think future leagues will require f_modified (model checking), some already do."
